Same problem here. Bought a SanDisk 16GB that I can't format in my SP-404SX. I tried to format the card in two different SP-404SX with the same result on both.
Status: The SanDisk 16GB and SP-404SX are not a good combination.
Ended up with a Kingston 8GB that works on the SP-404SX and the SanDisk ...
