I think I have this same problem on my sp202, I can run some experiments tonight.
do you mean using the mic to record sounds from the room, or the mic-in ?

i suppose the different variables to test would be:
rca in vs mic in vs built-in mic recording live sound
battery power vs power supply
live ...

I recently got one for $50, off craigslist (bay area).
no memory card,
and I noticed after I got it that it has the high pitched hum during recording issue..

Marking isn't a bad idea at all, it's a great idea, but the fact that you can only scroll "30" from there is stupid as FUCK.
yo nowaysj -- you CAN scroll further back than 30, each time you scroll back it resets the mark to that point, so scroll back 30, then hit start/end to get out of that mode ...
