404 pattern start problem
When I start a pattern using my Alesis SR-16, it is muted for a first 1/1.5 beats, and then the pattern kicks in, but only this only happens first time I play it after selecting it. Every time I play it after that, it works just fine. This only occurs when I am using the external device to drive the ...

Re: beat making from field recordings
yeah, that's a great idea. i have found that trying to make drums out of sounds can produce very stiff sounding beats. And while it's still pretty cool sounding, it just doesn't seem quite right. But you are totally right that it's all about rhythm and not necessarily percussion.

Re: beat making from field recordings
I like the sound of this. Seems like it would make nice organic songs.
What do you use to record, the external mic?
yeah i just use the internal mic on the 404. it works pretty well. I just go wandering around town and record stuff if i hear something cool. its a pretty relaxing thing actually ...

beat making from field recordings
This past week I've been walking around town with my 404 looking for sounds to make a beat out of. I found kids chanting for a cymbal, a bus door opening for an open hat, a wrench dropping on a Jiffy Lube floor for a snare, and a hammer nailing a board for a bass drum. I was just wondering if anyone ...

pattern questions
So I've been getting into the 404 a good bit, and I just have a couple questions about making patterns...
1. I'm having a hard time erasing a pad from a pattern if I make a mistake. If I am correct, once the display reads ErS, you hold down the pad you want deleted at the appropriate moment, for ...

i finally bought a 404
I found one for $150 on craigslist this past weekend and finally pulled the trigger and bought something. it's already been a blast to play with and i've been making some cool loops for my band. i'll post something when we record it, but it feels good to be a part of the family now.

Thanks for all the responses....
So is it pretty easy to sync these two up? ie maybe adding beats on from sr-16 into a loop on the 404...

Re: new to electronics, need help picking out a sampler
hey i actually bought a 404 this weekend for $150 off craigslist. it's in great condition, i think i got a great deal. i got it from a guy in a band whose van crashed in Hollywood, so they were selling off all their non essential equipment to fix it.

Re: new to electronics, need help picking out a sampler
thanks euclid, i've decided that if i can get a really good deal on a 303 (<$150) then i'll get one of those but if not i'll just get a 404. ebay and craigslist prices for both have been around $200 lately, and i figure its silly to pay almost as much for the 303 as the 404 costs when the 404 has a ...

Re: looking for the right sampler
So I think I may have been over-thinking things. All I want to do is play 404 pattern in sync with my drum machine. I'll have to switch patterns with my hands, but when I think about it, it's not really that big of a deal. That's possible right? Or is that where the SR-16's polyphony comes into play?

Re: looking for the right sampler
alright.... i've got a couple more questions to ask
changing the pad's midi notes between songs is a bit time consuming i imagine, right? i guess you would have to send program change messages from the SR-16 to the 404 or something? i have no idea how this is done....
