Try making beats with non-drum sounds. Listen to everything for a pattern, take a walk and hear sounds as drum sounds. Record/twist/pattern.

Make a pattern with the sound of thunder for the bass drum, a tree breaking for the snare and rain for the hats.

I too am a drummer and use this very same setup. The combo works great. There is so much you can do, you will get lost just playing around, seriously. But, there are some limitations.

I have played around with GB, using a M-Audio controller for writing. The midi is super limited in GB, so do not expect too much. They may add more to later versions, but at this point it is not a pro-level piece of software. Great for sketches, but not for full blown painting. If you get anything ...
