Re: 2 X 555

Yeah I sold the second one. Dude get an RC505 rather than a second 555!
The two 555's didn't really give me much more than what a tape recorder would do.

The loop capture (once I cracked it) was the thing that I wanted more of from the 555.

So the idea of 5 loop captures in sync was too much to ...

Re: BOSS RC 505

Does anyone have one of these yet?

I'd like to know how much it can do and if there are any short comings?

How well does it fit into your workflow?

Thanks

Re: How I keep live sets flowing

Its good to see Hurling Dervish post on here again.

To my mind HD's posts in this section are like the missing pages from the manual for this machine.

Thanks for taking the time to pass on all of this stuff dude.

Re: Musical Theory Debate

Its kind of ridiculous that this is even a debate. If you want to make music then theory is essential to do it well. I wouldn't hire a guy to build a house if he didn't know the theory behind it, he would be able to get by on common sense but the guy who knows theory would be better. Plain and ...

Re: Musical Theory Debate

We all have a limited amount of time doing music - what do you spend your time doing? Playing or reading about playing?

I'd rather record with someone who has played so much that they can play a single note with emotion and feeling and make people turn to listen and feel something themselves.

I ...

Re: Musical Theory Debate

but its like saying going to the culinary institute will make you a worse chef

Good point - but is making music really the same as cooking? Do you know you are cooking an apple pie before it goes ding and an apple pie comes out? Or do you let the track tell you if its an apple pie?

Music is art ...

Musical Theory Debate

So after a bit of a discussion in the tips area :) I wondered if others thought music theory is needed to operate a sampler or to simply make make good music?

Re: Pattern Select Mode Secrets

No problem - peace

Having never got into music theory and also having worked with many other musicians over the years, I tend to disagree. In my experience if Mr I'm grade blah at blah turns up to a jam, he tends to find jamming and writing a hard and ridged process and usually his actual playing ...

Once again - thanks for your valued input on this thread.

Ooo name calling and monkey jokes - isn’t sir a card!

I'm sorry that other people have opinions that are different from yours and that you view them as stupid. This is unfortunate because on a public internet forum, other people will often ...

Re: Pattern Select Mode Secrets

I've helped so many people on here and shared my production techniques in posts and videos. Of course someone should practice their instrument that is a fucking given! No one on this forum advocates for only music theory and no practical application. I would like to see you try to quote anything ...

Re: Pattern Select Mode Secrets

Well not to pick hairs but Wiki says:

"Music theory is the study of how music works. It examines the language and notation of music."

My point is that there is little point in learning a whole bunch of theory and being rubbish at playing your instrument, whatever that might be.

And that how ...

Re: RC-505 Desktop loop station!

If it works like 5 X 555 loopcaptures with the pedal that stay in time with each other and can be used live rather than 'stop the music and copy to pad' than that is cool.

Is it worth the money - depends on how useful it is to your workflow I guess.

Re: RC-505 Desktop loop station!

Does look cool but I think the big bad boss looper pedal might be more useful where it's under foot. This seems more targeted at vocal loop dudes?

Not sure why it matters to you guys that Roland do other instruments? Akai do a wind instrument thing and Roland do a virtual concertina thing..
