out of curiosity, how useful is the ability to save a loop to a pad? does it save much time compared to recording it in on a 404?

I'm currently looking for a sampler I can use to build up sounds from both pre-recorded samples and ones create more on-the-fly, as it were. From what I understand, neither the 404 nor that 555 are exactly ideal for this, as neither really allows you to record and include a sample while others are ...
