You checked for an empty battery (CR2032?) inside ?

You could contact Roland for assistance, their support for older stuff is great.
You could ask them for info on the so called self-test which most of their products have - and as also described in the service notes.

Policy seems to have changed a while ago, they don't send these out anymore, but friendly asking usually results in them sending you the relevant part of the documentation.

Good luck!

ok, so i opened her up and blew her out with compressed air.

i closed her and she worked great for that day.

next day the craziness started again, so i shut her off for a week.

i been using he for a few weeks now with no issue.

but i'm still concerned.

i tried a system initialize before i opened here up. didn't help.

i'm hoping it was just dust inside.

Ok, it was not the power supply. The problem was, I had set the latency to 256 in j. A. C. K.

Apparently the SP 606 cannot process audio from the computer at anything less than 512.

I am posting this here so just in case anyone has the same problem they will be able to find the answer you're SP 606 cannot get latency below 512 for the buffer.

I wasted half a year maybe more trying to figure this out I hope this helps someone else.

ok it wasn't dust, the power supply or latency.

i bought a second 606 and took the problem one to a repairmen.

after a week and a half he had fixed the issue.

here it is.....Bad Tac switches.

apparently they were pulling the overall current down and giving the device fits.

he charged my $170.00 for the fix. the thing works great now.

and now i have 2 606's

Mr. Thraz - can you tell me how much you paid for repair vs diagnostics?

I was thinking about offering local repair for around $50-$60 to replace all tact buttons on the machines, and an additional $30 - $40 to put in new potentiometers while I'm in there.
So I'm interested what you paid for the repair (opposed to diagnostics) and if you felt the price was steep or fair.

Thanks.

he didn't charge/ask for any diagnostics funds, when i dropped off the device, i asked if he needed any thing for looking into it for me. he said no. two days later i called and asked if he had a diagnosis. he informed me that he hadn't but was working on it. at that point i had lost hope a bought another 606 from ebay, a really beat up but funtionnoing 606 arrived a week later. the next day the repairman texted me. "you 606 is ready." he quoted me a flat fee $170.00 which i gladly paid. when i came to pick it up i asked him what the issue was he said that the current was being dragged down by bad tac switches that appeared to have gotten exposed to moister at some point.

he did warn me before dropping it off that if i needed replacement parts i would be out of luck. the Roland USA headquarters being in California which is locked down did limit his ability to get parts.

i don't care how much it coust it was worth every penny.

Thanks Mr. Thraz.
I have now typed two responses which I forgot to copy and save. This website times out to damn quick.
From your response I think my prices are fair.
Roland is hella cheap for new shit, but anything internal needs to be requested trough a certified repair center. That's where people get screwed.
Those tact switches are $0.17 each. Which is why I asked the price breakdown.

I am working with ALPs to do another run on another Roland discontinued item. Dependent on their response I will disclose the part number and request for financing at most I will drop $2,000 for exclusive rights to the part.
