Not my submission, but a quick scratch on a Tatsuro Yamashita loop, a lot of good stuff in there.

Stuck with Yoshio Suzuki - A bunch of really nice samples on that album. Hard to narrow it down so just kept it simple. Quick beat. SP606:

Lovely samples man

SP 404SX >
https://soundcloud.com/user-853604300/t ... le-spbb257

Chopped up couple of piano chords from the first track ("Sailing In The Blue") of Yoshio Suzuki's album, and went on from there.
Kept it simple, added a drum pattern, compressed it as much as I could, and played with fx (mostly delay, tape echo, looper and filter), also added a bassline - funny this one, I resampled one of the piano hits with the added tremolo/pan,wicked vibrato too - wanted to time stretch it a bit...but along the way I turned it into a bass by adding MFX23 and decided to keep it like that. You might not hear it in the mix that much, but some wicked shit is happening with both tremolo/pan and that subsonic riding.
Played the whole thing live ofc.
The vocal part is Tony Shalhoub's speech from "The man who wasn't there" (Coen brothers, love that movie one of their best) - about Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, the postulate of quantum mechanics.

Anyway, that's about it. Yeah, added couple of drum sounds too, like shakers and some single shots.

Love these samples, gonna chop them to oblivion when I find the time. Great share.

Really cool albums, thanks for introducing me to some music that I definitely would not have come across myself! Also really cool beats from everyone so far!
I don’t know if any of you guys are interested, but here’s a breakdown of the samples I used:
I ended up basing my track more or less around the harp arpeggios at the beginning of Motohiko Hamase’s “Intaglio” (title track). Drums I got from Hamase’s “Aborigine” and Tatsuro Yamashita’s “Hey Reporter”. Bass was taken from the title track of Yoshio Suzuki’s “Touch of Rain”. The vocal choir chops were from “Interlude A, part 1” off of Yamashita’s album and I used a breath during that track with a delay as a kind of cymbal effect. The harp glissando that I used to transition between a few of the sections was from a couple minutes into Hamase’s “Circlet”. I also used the marimbas from the beginning of that track. From Hamase’s “Oiseaux Á La Pluie”, I used the flute that opens the track as well as the strings that close the track (which through processing ended up sounding like an organ).
Everything was done on the 404sx and all sounds are from samples from the albums. The track length also unexpectedly happens to perfectly line up with the time limit! Any and all feedback and criticism I am more than open to hearing.

Thanks so much guys!

Hey, I'm new around here. I've had a 303 for years that I've always really liked a lot but have probably been underusing. I had stumbled across this site at some point in the past, but I just picked up a 202 ($15!!) and came back here for some info on that. Thought I'd go ahead and sign up.

I don't have any experience making beats, so I'm definitely out of my element here. But this looks like a great opportunity to dig into these machines and see what they're capable of. I really like the challenge of working in the box and seeing what you can come up with without a bunch of external gear. I've really been digging what everyone else is doing here

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e0YY7m ... sp=sharing

So this is super basic. Samples are "Love Talking'" from the Yamashita and "Oiseaux Á La Pluie" from the Hamase. Drums are from Sharris' drum breaks for #256 which I ended up not having time to do and an old Nonesuch Explorer record of African drumming. All 202 & 303

Nice, glad you got use out of the drums :)

I'm hoping I'll get my beat done in time. I sampled songs from all 3 albums & came up with a melody I really like, but I'm gettin burnt out. Did too many sp battles this month, I need a break. A lot of great material in this one tho, I couldn't pass it up. We'll see.

How did you get such a clean side-chain compression effect? Was that all just from MFX 12 on the 404? Sounds great

SP-202 into the 404 out to record. Melody layered on the 202, drum on the OG with Compression MFX12 on all sources. Recorded on one take. The 202's lofi recording hides things well along with the compressor blending together everything. Thanks for the feedback!
