I bought tecsun pl-380 worlwide radio recently
Image

because i need to improve my english listening and vocabulary for my studies (to listen english speaking radios from england, US, jamaica, or whatever) and because my internet connection is very bad when i put my VPN on (i'm in China so NO VPN = chinese internet = nothing) maybe i could find cool music on underground radios.
I am also interested in amateur radio to communicate with people trough this media arround the world using specific codes, i'd like to learn this.
Are you into radio ?

Drop some yen on a decent VPN provider g, speed that shit up. Money better spent than on a radio. How you gonna lofi study and chill 24/7 on a radio?

man i'm paying 80€/year for express VPN (which is the best) but trust me, the chinese gov is killing those VPthings (oh and here it's Yuan, Yen in Japan )
And i like the fact radio is instant, i just push a button and boom. So yeah it's the 21st century now but still a radio is faster than internet to listen...radio
It's not lo-fi, there is a very good sound quality on this unit.
I can understand that you find this archaic tho, it's all good  .
And for the music thing, i'm sure i can find some rare samples on underground cambodgian, japanese or african radios, maybe more fun than youtube everytime.

I'm confused as to how you can have a world radio?
I thought FM was short wave?

This is new to me and a really kewl dude way of grabbing samples if it works!
...You mentioned it's from china...does it work?

The VPN thing sounds terruble

First I think short wave (SWL) is different from FM or AM radio
https://www.wikihow.com/Use-a-Shortwave-Radio
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shortwave_radio
This world radio use AM/FM and SWL (but on a little range of frequencies I think) so you can hear radios around the world, I think it depends of the strenght's station emission. I'm just new into that so except before i listened radio to record tape when i was young (before internet era) i don't know a lot about it.
Then, it's made in China yes but Tecsun is a serious reference for radio, i compared the different views and it seems to be better than its Sony equivalent (And I'm a Sony guy tho !) so I took it.
I'll receive it today or tomorrow so i can give you feedback if you want.
This article is pretty interesting: the different possibility of radio https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/arti ... around-you

the website looks cool
no, finaly, I'm in china
lowcost here for sure haha
i tried the radio and I listened FM , there are only chinese stations :'( (not even BBC) but they sound really good with chinese music from 60's to 00's (80's synth pop, classic, 90's hip hop, old school chinese, etc..) so there is choice to find good samples.
I tried the SWL and it seems to be hard to find something, I'm sure I can listen the taxis of my city tho bc they use it

The connection is bad only when you are using VPN? If so, I'd try to switch to another vpn service, you can get a significant speed improvement using a good vpn service. Here is a website where you can find more info about VPN services, maybe it will be helpful - https://vpnservicepro.com/best-free-vpn-for-torrenting/ .
