sheeat, might as well get an mpc for that price. thats insane, shit came out in like the 90's for like 400. keep lookin, i remember after i bought mine i saw like 3 others for 200 bucks buy it now. make sure you do your research, it has NO sequencer but the 4 track lets you drop songs easily if you like to play unquantized. and it has a playlist window and some pretty straight foward copy and paste if you work to the tempo, you set regions and copy and paste tracks millions of times. then you can lay out a loop in the 4 track and resample it to a pad, sort of like bouncing, but sampling your bounce to pads. and the effects are INSANE!!! so make sure you look into it before you buy cause its very different from all the other sp samplers, but good in its own way. and the zip drive whine isnt that bad, i get more noise from my fridge!

right on, i just got a mpc1k and hooked it up as an effects unit, its amazing to do it like that. the effects are really good and im resampling on the mpc as easily as you could on the 555, the 606 resampling was pretty gay with the fuckin blue button. its like the sampler for newbies. and it feels plastic as fuck.

it was more than 400 when it came out, no?
if you can get the ex version, it will work as an effects unit. I tried to upgrade mine to an ex but just can't figure out how. for me, the two things it excels at are effects(been said) and the ability to pull and place samples with the software.

i picked mine up for about 300 pounds about 5 years ago. there cheaper now, for a very good condition with a few zips and maybe even a usb zip drive thrown in (UK) your talking about 150 to 200 pounds. i am considering getting a second unit, for these prices your getting a lot of machine for your bucks. the good thing about picking up hardware like this is if you don't want to keep it just sell it on, you should get your money back.
was in tokyo on holiday about 6 years ago and picked up er-1 in electric city for about 50 euro, its well cheap over there for this kind of stuff.

Well that's quite lucky.
Some things are cheap, most not so much. All electribe units go for 10,000 yen+ now. The 808s just aren't that popular, nor are 303s (well tb-303 is). My best grab was dr-55 I bought for 600yen and sold for 6000 on auction. I thought it was broke and sold it as junk. When I was boxing it up, I saw that there was another place for batteries under the back. I stuck some in and it worked fine. DOH! The buyer was informed and quite happy I'm sure.

also brought back akai S01 sampler cost around 15 euro, still have it not worth switching on though. bought a korg EA-1 from Tokyo but through ebay and was considerably more expensive than the ER-1, over twice the price that i paid in Tokyo if i remember.

They seem to be increasing in price to $350. I guess now is a good time to scope one before they get rare.

Honestly the price depends what's all on the 808.
Does it have the optional SCSI card?
Does it have the Optional digital outs?
Does it have the most updated OS?
Does it have the 808ex OS?
Does it have a Zip 250 or Zip750 drive?
Any other mods?
Does it have the original factory sound Zip disk?

Sadly, I sold my 808 for $400 since it had the Zip750 drive, digital outs card, factory sound Zip disk, manual, sticker pack and 808ex OS installed. I miss it now.

I bought mine the year the SP-808 was originally released and paid £1000 for it.

I also purchased the SP-808 ex a little later and the OP1 Expansion Board as well.

I sold the 808 years ago but still have the 808-EX Iplus the OP 1 Expansion Board although the sampler is in a state of needing a total overhaul unfortunately.
