What value do yall place on VHS as a medium? Do you collect movies that ain't released elsewhere or is it just part of a 90s fetish?

videos produced before the latest 90s/00s were mastered in analog format. recorded on VHS. cartoons were hand drawn and recorded on VHS. the warmth of the color and the beauty of the grain. some people say that tape/film can capture the soul of the photographed/filmed

i think it's funny you said 90s fetish. my favorite tape is from 1971

What's your favourite tape, g? I think when people talk about capturing the soul like that, its about what shits recorded on, not distributed on, no? oldschool mediums definitely have value, not intrinsically tho. Shit's not cooler just because it's stored on vhs bro.

you haven't researched the difference between analog and digital signals. vintage analog medium does have intrinsic quality.
i'm too cool to tell you what my favorite tape is. i'll give a hint, a rock star wrote, directed, and composed the entire soundtrack for orchestra... one of the first films to use certain video effects and distortions

Never even seen it, but my guess is you are referring to Clockwork Orange.

Dan-That is a pretty sweet collection you have there. You need to find a Q-Bert, ISP collector to unload that as a lot. Hell, I want them all, I just don't need more shit filling up my basement.

I kept mine for sentimental reasons, but all my VHS "movies" went to Goodwill. Any Movies that I really like (Old Christian Slater, Pump up the volume, Heathers, Gleaming the cube, and surely Juice) will slowly be bought on DVD as I find them. But I have never been much of a fan of movies or TV, so to me the VHS are/were worthless.

Zendan - Goodwill is a great place to pick them up if you are into collecting for about 25cents each.

As someone who lived the birth of VHS and Hip Hop, I can say that you need more research. Most likely that 1971 VHS tape is a reprint, VHS didn't usher in until the early 80's. VHS is also consumer quality, so cartoons made for VHS were dummied down from their original format which could be 16mm or 35mm film. Like wav. file tracks converted for MP3. And finally, VHS will always be analog, even Super VHS, its just low consumer quality of the time.

Can’t remember the post, who made it, but the nutshell of the discussion was about recording beats and using VCRs and recording the beats on VHS tapes, because they give some good sounding compression to the audio it records from its source.

I have a dvd/vhs deck, but I only watch DVDs on it. Don’t have any VHS tapes I really feel like watching, but it would be interesting to record audio onto old school VHS tapes. Not something I desire to try now, but maybe someday I might want to hear the difference.

Between Crane and Danswift, you two could start a turntablism VHS mini rental store.
