So that track was from their lost tapes?

I have a relative who says he determines who a great musician is based on their unreleased material.

LP's like this give credit to his logic.

Yeah, the Missing Period lp was released around 1997 if I remember correctly and is a compilation of lost studio session tapes from 1975/6 ish.

And since we're on the subject - I really love M. Vitous' work in Weather report - "Mysterious traveler" is an epic record, great bass chops. The dude played it like a saxophone (Cucumber slumber is the perfect example) lol that was really something.

Agreed -Miroslav Vitous is an awesome bassist.

@ LoopmantrA
Have you heard the Universal Syncopations lp Vitous released around 2001 ish ?

That's a good one to get into...the musicianship on that recording is top notch.

I'd 2nd the music man, they make nice stuff. I personally use a Squier Jaguar short scale bass though, I like the PJ pick ups because you can get an array of tones, although I plan on upgrading to EMG Geezer Butler or Seymour Duncan quarter pounds and an Omega bridge. I set it up and put some labella deep talkin' flats on it and it works well for adding bass lines to a sample. For what it's worth short scale basses have a nice fat blooming bass sound due to the shorter scale length and the strings have less tension for easier pitch bends. Sir Paul McCartney played short scale bass

Ofc, that's a great record.. I also love some of Zawinul's later work, though it's bit too much of world music, and less jazz fusion - but still, there're some epic tracks.

Yeah, the Grant SG Bass I had was a short scale model and had a pretty fat 'growly' tone and it sounded dope in the upper registers too.

I'd like to own one again at some point as mine was knocked off it's stand when a gust of wind blew through the window one summers day and it fell and smashed the headstock clean off and completely fucked up the neck ! hahaha..oh dear... :?

One of my cousins is a terrific bass player who's been playing since he was around 12 years old and he's owned some absolute beauties over the years and he's recently built his own custom 5 string model which is very cool.

I'll have to get him to send me some photos of it at some point for you bass player cats to take a look at.

That’s awful

I used to play bass years ago, had a nice 4 string frettless. Only musical trade I still regret, moved it for a shit acoustic guitar that I owned for no more then a month. Keep threatening to grab another. I do like those dean acoustic basses for super cheap.
