How do you make your snares hit softer ? If that makes sense
Here’s an example:
https://m.soundcloud.com/imaginary-othe ... nary-other

In my beats it’s seems the snare cuts through everything. I’m trying to have it exactly like the song I tagged. Is this achieved by compressing ? Limiting ? just lowering the volume of the snare ? Or simply Eq’ing ?

I appreciate the help in advance

Yo, I don't really understand the question as for me the snare is already pretty punchy in this beat :D Of course there is sound choice which is important, you can also try to layer your snare, they'll sound more punchy but then you're able to play them quieter and they'll still cut through the mix. The best tip is probably to eq your drums, look around google for "eq drums cheat sheet", helps you to know which part to boost/cut for the desired sound. For instance boosting a snare around 150/200khz will make it sound more "full" (so youu can try to roll off those frequencies), boosting aroun 1000khz/2000 will emphazises the "snap" etc...And effects of course, for instance filtering your snare using the "wah" gives it a pretty nice sound. You can also try to set your start point slightly after the real start point (if that makes sense ?) to cut a bit the snap; I think that's what happening in this beat (there's a "full" snare and one with less attack) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqpo0aQ ... jreload=10 (or maybe he sidechained the snare to the kick). Hope that helps

This helped a lot preciate it. Never thought to adjust the starting point , I tried it a bit this morning before work and it seems to help especially the wah trick. Yea, i think I just want some of the high freqs of the snare gone, so like you said eqing is probably the best bet.

Thanks again
