Another word for "warble" is "oscillate."

Analog monosynths. Madlib's got plenty of em.

I thought the stuff he did with Dudley Perkins was alright. Most of the stuff was mediocre for Madlib. I can't stand Dudley as a rapper though. He just sounds like a bum off the corner they gave a mic. Talking about God with a joint in one hand and a beer in the other.
Still, the track Falling is one of my favorite Mad lib samples.

If you really pay attention to his sound, Madlib's style is not complex and can easily be emulated. The thing so elusive is the samples he uses. You can tell he is a hardcore digger, cus the records he uses are all hard to find gems.

Speaking of Madlib's bass. Has he ever been known to sample himself playing bass? I just wonder sometimes how he would find such perfect, isolated baselines that fit the samples perfectly and that don't sound like played on pads.

I have an opinion on this.

I feel like there are two relevant things at play here. One is good bass isolation and boosting.

The other thing that I think makes it sound very warbly is I think a lot of it is TIMESTRETCHED. If you isolate a bass line and then stretch it out on the SP, I feel like a lot of that wicked warbly sound comes out.

Madlib over hyped.. Pffft you guys are drunk off martinis
That guys microwave trash beats are better than your favorite beat makes hitz... His f&D and Gibbs shit will be crack rock in 5 years. He's way ahead of the game.

My take on getting the bass warble effect; take 2 of the same sample. Time stretch. Throw a hi pass filter on one and a low pass on the other.
Compress
Eq boost the low pass
