i got a super easy to use novation circuit that has midi usb connectivity.. I had plans to use it with the free abelton that came with it.. BUT i find it so over complicated and just getting started kinda kills the whole buzz of creating music for me.. I am really looking for some kind of easy to use/setup software that will let me use my own samples and possibly map knobs to control the software.. does something like this exist? or is everything worth using terribly complicated.. I tried searching online via google searches and SOME stuff comes up, and a fair amount of apps.. I have an older ipad and cant imagine working well on my phone..

Don't give up on Ableton yet. It's probably the best software in conjunction with your Circuit. Like anything, just spend more time with it and you will find a workflow that fits you. It's actually quite easy to learn and IMO has the fastest workflow that I've used compared to FL Studio, Reason, and Cubase. Plus, you can't beat the fact that it came free with Circuit, with limitations. I'd be super fine with using the lite version.

i guess i just want something that is already set up and i turn it on.. load whatever i want and it just works.. i just get uninspired with all the set up and arming and figuring out why something isnt working.. I have watched a few good tutorials on circuit->abelton stuff and its all mousework and clicking.. ugh.. youre probably right though.. why am i fighting software behavior when i should really just stick to hardware.

Check fxpansion GEIST. There is a series of tutorials that definitely help.

It is cheaper now since they are going to release Geist 2.

If you have an iPad check beatmaker2 (waiting also the third version) or iMPC pro (not iMPC Classic). I suggest BM2 ,since it's the cheapest all in one solution (can record tracks with audio midi) and worked well on my old ipad3.

Sell your computer and buy a SP and tape deck.

Maybe try Bitwig Studio. It's a professional DAW, too, like Live but a lot easier. I hated ableton and never got used to it and gave up. Now with Bitwig I finally feel at home! I can highly recommend it.

Cheers =)

This.

Give yourself a couple of months to learn your way around ableton and you'll be using it without looking in no time. I mainly use it for mastering now after going to tape, but it's the best DAW I've ever used & im not really a computer guy.
