try compressor:
sustain max attack min level max , keeping in count that the sound that has to "drive" the compression has to be the loudest (without the effect) for example a big kick louder that the rest...
anyway there is also a ducking setting in the 606 gate effect but i never knew how to use ie it well...

i gave it a try but it didnt work.probably i'm doing something wrong here.
lets say pad 1 for hard drums and pad 2 for bassline in low volume.i tried both effects on compressor with the settings you describe for pad 2 and pad 1 in no effect

the results i get is just compression of the bassline and no ducking while drums are playing.i tried resampling bassline with compressor but nothing as well.

please doc, tell me whats the prob!

maybe try with subsonic or a lower bass tone, run the compressor, and the beat should cut out momentarily while the bass is on.

dont know the exact formula, or how a compressor works or the science behind it so, i dunno, I know you can automate mixer sliders with a peak controller on a daw to do it the futuristic way.

i was trying to make the bassline duck while the drums or kick only hits

ps. LO in the past i used the limiter-compressor on FL to get the effect and it was pretty easy but now i'm trying to make it work on the SP..fucking brainteaser haha

if the bass is the main sound you want to be ducking the rest then try the same compressor setting i said, if it's the drums "the rule" is the same: the sound that you want to duck the rest has to be the loudest (without the compressor applied); so before everything, do volume setting of all samples and then do COMP sust MAX attack MIN lev MAX
hope is now clearer

after some experimentation i realised that the effect is working after the settings you told me,except that the kick that i want to lower the volume of the bassline actually ducks it only when its on fx mode as well.

just for the record,my exact setting are:
bassline volume level 1 , compression effect sust max attack min level max
kick vol. level 127 under the same compressor enabled

what kind of sorcery is that?ellaguru, are you sure the kick must not be on fx mode???

thanks anyway for the great help! i really want to know whats happening here..

man read better what i wrote
i didn't said that the kick hasn't to be on fx, EVERITHING has to be on FX, but before putting all samples on compressor effect, try to do volume setting of every samples

oops i'm really sorry man.i read on your first reply "the sound that has to "drive" the compression has to be the loudest (without the effect)" so i assumed this sound must not be on fx mode.my mother language is not english so sometimes its easy to make a mistake.
thanks a lot for your reply man,you helped me a lot :)

have you got tips to share on the duck setting on gate effect? I talk exactly about theat "duck" part written on , after "gate" (when you turn the knob to right)...i tried it sometimes, and it ducks, but i remember that i wasn't very satisfied...for example: do you put the effect all across every samples or not?...do sidechain effect works well also with it?
i'll try to experimentate again...
