How do you do this??? The closest I have gotten is using the DRUM setting in wave edit. But it just plays my chops til the end and when I hit another pad it doesn't cut.

Is there any way to set the poly to 1?

Yeah, 505 has no mute groups but the 606 does. The MS-1 has it too but 606 allows up to 4 different groups while the MS allows only one group.

Awwww mannn......if I can't apply cut/mute through the pads in any way that is going to be a majorrrr workflow killer for me...

Using the gate just isn't the same feel....

Hopefully, the 32 does transmit polyphony. I didn't want to buy one but this would make it a must now. I can't find anything on the web that states if it does or not... only that is transmits PPR but that isn't the same thing.

I'd love a combination of the MS1, 404, 505 and 606. 606 pads, D-beam/synth and mute groups, 505 chop, wave editing, resample (with the ability to resample with ext source) and FX, 404 built in mic, subsonic and DJFX/BPM loopers, in an MS1, with the addition of high and low pass filters, the ability to switch between pitching individual samples or global pitch, 8 track sequencer and SD card storage. Surely I'm not asking too much am I? I seem to remember writing something similar on here before somewhere.

MSP-654 anyone?

:D This is why I bought the MV8800, because it has almost all my favorite features of the MS and SPs. Though it wasn't a pick up and play type sampler like SPs are, but in time it shows its mettle and you do have fun.

Still, I'm on the prowl for that perfect sampler.

505 doesn't do mute groups but there is a work around. you can go into the micro edit and then go into the "event" and change the gate length after you have recorded where you would want your samples to be triggered.

6: 64th note
12: 32nd note
24: 16th note
48: eighth note
96: quarter note
192: half note
384: whole note

so if you know how long you want something to play and know basic math...you can really make some dope music with the 505.

its pretty easy to do and you get the mute group sound. would be dope to just be able to play with mute groups but with SP there is always a work around.

i just use the 4 tracks for dif sets of mute groups. if i wanna drop stuff out i just put it on dif tracks, then use that for real-time drop outs.

The thing is I don't sequence in the SP environment....and the MPD24 doesn't remedy this because it doesn't send polyphony. (I don't know any controller that does)...would be a great feature though.

So, I'm going to have to import everything into my DAW.

Looks like my SP-505 is relegated to a color box.. and I'm fine with that, actually because that's really what I bought it for to begin with.

best way is set pads to trig, then play your first pad, then hit it at the same time as your next pad and you will get the desired effect, requires a little practice, but its good for your brain!

i was torn between the 555 505 and the 606,... whittled it down, the only disappointing thing was no mute grouping... im an ex 808 user and it had on that beast... luckily i been a 2000 user for so long i wouldn't need it, but i still think its a great feature for some really interesting chops... the bad side is you end up with a lot of overchopped samples and forget about the simple but effective

the 505 doesn't have mute group, that's true, but i feel it's better refined than the 606 when it comes to microedit (on the 606 you cannot listen to pattern while editing, shame on roland!), chopping (32 banks on the 505 vs 16 on the 606),resampling (you cannot resampling from a bank to another on the 606, shame on roland part 2) and clipboarding (just only ONE DAMN SAMPLE per time on the 606, shame on roland part 3 :) ); plus, the weird pitch function combined to the instant bmp sync function give to it a special flavour
ps
i forget to say that on the 606 you cannot "lofiing" that much: when resampling you cannot degrade samples, there are no Long or Lofi grade on that mode, they're available only on sampling mode...(at last, only Long mode...)
ps2
the 505 and the 606 aren't very astonishing machines talking about midi notes messages, but at least, the 505 is multitimbrical 4 parts: you can control up to 4 midi channels of your choice if you want; while on the 505 you can send sequenced midi notes, this is not possible on the 606 (wich brings us on shame on roland part 4  ....at least this is not possible via hardware, i don't know if it is via soft, read below...you can just push pads to send not messages, but not sequenced ones...)
ps3
on the 505, like on the 303, you can resample pads+ext source simultaneously
ps4
saying this, the 606 has also some nice points (2fx simultanesously, internal synth -similar to your sp808-, the Mastering section, saving in .wav etc)...but one main difference between the 2 machine is that the 606 sorted out like a pioneeristic machine because was also conceived to work with a pc (soundcard/usb controller)...so ages before NI Maschine...but roland slept on this, they never released new OS or other significant improvements for this sampler...
