I know it's a pretty subjective question but I wanted to have some people from my favorite music site's advice. First of all, let me say that I got rid of my computer 2 months ago because it was making me less creative (now I upload tracks directly from the SD card to soundcloud at the library..). So now, all I use is an SP-404sx, a monotron delay, a toy robot with notes and different sounds and I sample mainly from tapes, not having a turntable at the moment. So, I've been thinking that the 505 would be too much and too close to using a computer. I like minimal setups. And it's all about boundaries, man! Boundaries that force you to make more with less. anyways, you guys all know that, so, what do you think? DO I get the 202 for the gritty, lofi sound, and to bounce tracks once in a while. Or spend 50$ more and get a 505, probably hate it but sell it back and make 50-75$ profit? I mean, I'm far from rich, I get food from food banks, i used to be on the street and a stranded junkie, now I ve been clean for 4 years and spend most of my money on tapes and music gear once in a while, went the midi route with a BCR, monome , laptop and al, but it didn't cut it. But now, I have to really weight the pros and cons to keep it lofi and minimal. And what about a 202 versus a sampletrak? Thanks anyways, for advice.

probably the 505. $50 is pretty negligible and you're getting more with the 505 (even though you might not want the extra features). you can still keep it lo fi--the gritty 202 sound is great but a good workflow is more important. as a 404 owner myself (never used a 202 or 505--only 303 and 606) i'd go with either one over the sampletrak. the zoom does more than the 202 but i just like the look of the 202.

Get the 202 for the gritty sound and pitch effect. You said a SampleTrak. Get that too for an ill lo-fi combo.

yeah, that's what I was thinking. So, about the pitch, It's better than the weak sounding pitch shift on the 404sx? I mean, i'm getting used to it, I add treble with isolator and then, use the filter and I get the same sound back.
Yeah, the 202 seems pretty cool. I'm thinking of using it live, I haven't played live with an SP yet, used to play in bands but I can see a nice little live setup with the 202 reserved for oneshots and some drums with delay dub-style, and passed thru EXT on the 404.And maybe with my miniKP, in the middle. A sandwich setup.

yeah, finally got my 202. Amazing machine! Makes the drum sounds sound fatter and that pitch and timestretch are perfect.

Good deal too: 100$ with the box, original smart card, manual. Almost mint! The guy really took care of it.

the 202 will be a great partner for your 404

Buy memory cards as soon as you can. They're getting pricy lately.
