I'm using the current version. And to be honest, it converts files that the Roland converter rejects, so I'm still loving it.

I have the sp-505, and I have been investigating the "sp0" files. I used a command-line program I downloaded called "rdac2wav", and on it's "MT2" setting I can partially convert the .sp0 files to 16/44100 .wav files. By "partially", I mean that the sample can be heard, but it is interspersed with digital noise. I thought this might be somewhat helpful for those trying to decode the sp(202,303, og 404,505, possibly 808) sample format. I have attached both the open-source program by Randy Gordon, and an example sample of a snare+cymbal hit.

Is there anyway to take the samples of my 404sx and load them directly to my computer?

wondering if the wav you attached is the actual raw converted data or a recorded sample. this might help someone solve your problem.

Going to read all this thread later. Maybe I can be of some help. I'm a C and C++ software developer. Very interesting thread though. I tried to hack the Jazzmutant Lemur firmware, but was very difficult.

Post subject: Click noise when double-triggering the same sample

I work on an MS-Excel tool that helps you to write/edit pattern: See SheetMusic2Pattern in this forum or Roland SP-404SX on my website.

Now I have identified an issue when double-triggering the same sample at different velocity values in a short sequence. I hear a click noise when the second trigger (at lower velocity) is played. I assume that this happens if the double-trigger sequence is shorter than the sample/wav length.

Example: Play 1/16 notes on a surdo. The complete surdo sample/wav takes 1.5 seconds to complete. The second note is triggered after 0.2 seconds at a lower velocity.
Code:
____########_____ Surdo sample takes 1.5 seconds (here: 8 character)
^             Surdo sample triggered the first time at full volume
____##........___ Surdo sample triggered a second time at a lower volume
^           Click noise when SP is switching to lower velocity value

The SP pattern file looks like:
Code:
18 80 00 00 00 00 00 00
30 61 00 00 64 00 00 01
18 61 00 00 64 00 00 01
48 61 00 00 19 00 00 01  * click...
18 61 00 00 64 00 00 01
48 61 00 00 19 00 00 01  * click...
18 61 00 00 64 00 00 01
18 61 00 00 19 00 00 01
...

The meaning of each row of a SP pattern file:
Code:
18 61 00 00 19 00 00 01
|  |  |  |  |  |  |--|
|  |  |  |  |  |  Length (Ticks, 2 Bytes)
|  |  |  |  |  unknown
|  |  |  |  Velocity (0 - 127)
|  |  |  unknown
|  |  Channel Offset (00=ABCDE, 01=FGHIJ)
|  Pad (MIDI-Note, 47-106)
Interval (Ticks)

Is there a way to trigger the same pad two or more times in a kind of polyphony or do I have to copy the sample to another pad and trigger this one?
