both with vga-output, 8 channels stereo audio tracks and 128 midi tracks...the pads work PERFECT! , i chop my samples and then put in my sp-555 and sp-404, i use mark option only out of my studio (in the road)

mv-8800 is ill-....... 8)

Actually Akai did do some serious thinking on this.. and this will be a hit for awhile..

Three-oscillator virtual analog synth engine with built-in arpeggiator

Very nice, this makes it very powerful.. Bascially Akai tried to mesh a Emu Command station and their infamous sampler together and to me it won't work.. I'm a big emu fan and I have 2 command stations and the sequencing power I get from those command stations are fuckin sick.. the Akai is still sticking to their 64 voice polyphony when Emu create a 128 voice 5 years ago with their Command station.. Akai is trying to make the MPC2500 an up(4000, 5000) a centralized command station.. I think it's weak for combining a 3 osc .. Akai you could have added more.. however the ARp is what will grab everyone.. for sure.. You got tha flavor of the westcoast (Think of WAVe hydrodraulics, how it pulsates) now without any further tweaking.. only your akai junk producers will pick this up.. it's only geared towards people with an all in one solution.. In speaking of the all in one solution have you guys seen the Fantom G by roland? I have to admit Roland made that shit look tight as hell..

Yeah man, for a thousand dollars less than the mpc, you could do 1000 times as much stuff with the Fantom-G. That thing is incredible.

Kinda funny...everyone thought Roland copied the MPC with the MV-8000, now Akai seems to be copying the MV with this 5000 thing. The MPC has become almost a fashion trend, like if you don't have one you aint shit as far as a beatmaker/producer. I have a 1000, but I rarely use it. I prefer the 606 over it all the way so there is no way I'd even consider buying the 5000. I would look more into buying the next SP that comes out.

I agree... its probably a cool machine. But Akai is reallying on their name to sell this thing. And lots of stupid people will buy it just because of the name. The price is set WAY to high.

Akai says:

The MPC5000's virtual analog synth eliminates need for external analog synth modules or buggy software based synthesizers.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Akai calling software buggy. Funniest thing I've ever seen

Moog just came out with a new pure analog synth little phatty and it looks pretty crazy, I bet if you recorded that through an old tube amp onto a high quality reel 2 reel 4-Track tape recorder it would have a great old sound.

Word! I'd definitely be far more interesting in the next SP than a MPC5000, but if i had money to burn I'd probably would buy a MV-8800 and perhaps a MPC5000. Overall I think it's probably still the best MPC Akai has to offer when you take modern tech into consideration. (I have no doubts that the MPC60 and so on were awesome machines, perhaps still are, but I wouldn't buy them).

One cool thing about mpcs is that they keep their value like a good car or something. I've seen people asking $1000 for a mint mpc 60 II.
