I am pretty hyped about it just need to figure out how to flawlessly get the 303 and 202 working together I've just been sampling the drums out into Ableton and then into the 303 and back again which is a pretty lengthy process right now...

202 midi out
303 midi in.

the 404sx is on AUTO by default and pressing play on the 202 will start a pattern. there's a way to put a 404 on like. tempo sync or something so that the pattern will star ton time but not automaticly.

I really don't know about 303, but try to get the user manual online and I'm rpetty sure you'll be covered.

@Discern:
you can record 3 parts on the dr-202. drums, bass and the ext part (i think you have to hit shift and bass to record on it?) for controlling other equipment like the sp-303. you can set a different midi-channel for each one. you should set the ext part to the same midi channel as your 303. now you have to find the right octave to play the samples from the 303. it depends on which bank you recorded your samples on.
in pattern mode on the dr-202, hit record to start real time recording and there you can change the octave. try all 202-pads on every octave setting until it plays back the samples on the 303.

i hope that helps somehow. i know it took me a while to get both of these robots working together. good luck!

yes, it's like that.
check early squarpusher records, 1996>1998 circa...
he used the dr660 to sequence samples from an akai s sampler, i forgotten the model, and also some internal 660 sounds. (the complete set up he used was more crazy than this: it was completed by a tr707 -master- that drove the dr660 -slave- via midi and a tb303 or an mc202 -all slave- via din out...)

damn, the real fact is that also the an200 i got has a roll that works via midi and the mc909 got an arpeggio that works as roll via midi too, but no roll is fantastically faster as the one on the dr202...
i got also an sp606 wich that have a good roll (1/48) but it seems not working via midi...

wow! thanx for the info. i love the old squarepusher stuff. haven't kept up with the newer albums. i probably should. that guy is a genius. i think he had a sh-101 too. and a bass-guitar:)

cool thing about the dr-202 is the different types of rolls. still waiting for the dr-303...

by the way, is there a (cheap) drum machine where you can edit the pitch, decay, filter cutoff of the sounds?

damn you're right about the sh-101, i forget it.

a cheap drum machine with those carachteristics it could be the akai xr20 (wich has note repeat), i had it but i forget about the filters: i'm not sure about that.
btw what's wrong with the dr202? you can do all that on it...

yo i still rock my 202 pretty hard but my output are god dman low, are your output super low also.

low like i gotta either apply 100% compression on the 404sx or like 2x isolator to boost what I want.

well, have you tried the pitch on it? or combining that with cutoff/resonance? or pitch+filter+flanger...etc...
btw, the xr20 i suggested got mostly some hiphop oriented sounds...

xr20 sounds good.
and yeah man, the variety of the sounds you can create with the dr-202 is very large. i got the dr-202 when it came out here in europe and used it probably too much. still like it a lot but use it mainly for layering with vinyl drumsounds or with fx-pedals.
wonder if the xr20 is as good, better, weaker or just different...?:)
