Ok i know this question sounds really stupid, but after 7 years makin music on computers and using hardware drummachine i feel like total idiot while tryin to program drumbeat on sp 606 using step recording mode

ok i have tr 909 samplekit, i wanna program 4/4 beat 1 measure pattern

each 1 measure pattern has 16 steps where you can insert any sound like bass drum, snare, hi hats and so on

let's say i wanna program a pattern:
step 1 - bass drum
step 5 - snare
step 7 - bass drum
step 13 - snare
and hi-hat on steps 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15

when i try to make such thing in step recording mode on sp 606 (whether note recording, or sample recording) all i get is every sound inserts on each 4 th beat automatically - and i can't choose none of 16 steps where to insert my drum sounds

please people help me solve this issue coz i really hate to record patterns live

thanks in advance

oh the drummachine i used was and is yamaha ry-10 which has amazing step grid sequencer to make patterns (just like tr 909)

I've never used one of those but if all your samples are landing on 1/4 notes, I assume you have the quantize set to a 1/4 note default or something. If you don't have the manual you can probably download it, but in the manual there should be a section on how to change the quantize settings. Just put it on 1/4 notes to place snares then try putting the hi-hats on 1/8 notes, and everything else like kicks and samples with 1/16 note or no quantize to get a better swing.

thanks dr sample i'll try to do it that way, i just thought that quantize settings apply to the whole pattern not each sample separately, though it sounds interesting!

thanks again!
