ive got the esx playing patterns triggering the 606s sounds. what i was hoping to do was be able to resample a drum pattern to one pad. it made perfect sense in my head. the manual seemed to say that it could happen but when i am in sampling mode and hit play the clock runs out by 4 bars and as soon as sampling stops my pattern starts playing (via the esx still triggering pads). ive tried the sample, resample, and ext sampling functions following the manual and trying various trouble shooting of my own.

again...

they are connected and talking via midi.

ive got control

just no resample.

is this not possible?

hi, im not expert on this, and i dont want to insult your intelligence, but you are aware that the MIDI connection is only sending note data, and no actual audio, right? to resample you will also need an audio connection between the units...

hope this helps, sorry if ive missed the point!

i have a somewhat good grip on midi control and KNOW that i dont need to connect these two machine with audio cables to achieve what i am trying to do.

maybe my first post wasnt as clear. i said the esx is triggering the 606s sounds. all audio is coming out of the 606 the esx is just the sequencer. i am trying to get the 606 to resample its self. as soon as i try and set it up to resample in various ways the sequencer is ignored (even though seconds ago the 606 was making sounds triggered from the esx) and everything is silent even though my esx is still running. as soon as sampling stops the pads play again with no problem. i feel like what i am trying to do should be possible.

basically on the 404 you can hit sample or resample and select a source pad and then play a drum pattern and stop sampling. now your drum pattern is on one pad. i am trying to do the same thing only instead of drumming live im using an external sequencer.

It should work.
(606 manual p.48)
"Set your external sequencer to operate as a “MIDI slave,” and.........."
I think that's the trick:

1. 606:Hold down [FUNC] and press pad [11] (MIDI UTIL) to get the MIDI
UTILITY screen.
- goto Sync Mode and choose INT (maybe you forgot it on slave mode when sequencing from esx?)

-Tx MIDI Sync : to ON

-"Soft Thru" to OFF(depends on your setup, but for first test set to off)

2.esx : set it to slave mode(I don't know but I'm sure you do!)

3."Press [SAMPLING] to get the SAMPLING MENU screen."
"Press [F3] (EXT) to get the EXT SEQ SMPL STANDBY (External Sequence Sampling Standby) screen."
choose bpm, number of beats and leave the "Auto Trig"to OFF
Also if you notice any dropouts or "outofsyncs" change the sampling mode to normal(not LONG).I used to had trouble with ext.sampling on my sp606 on long mode.
