I am still trying to record a pattern in sync with ableton live ....can anyone offer a walk through guide .....
from the beginning plllleeaaassee !!

the must:
have you got an external soundcard?
then go to midi utilities on the 606 and ,if you want to sync with ableton then you can put it in "slave"; if ableton is able to trasmitt midi, then you can record in sync just playing "play" on the software: the 606 will follow...
if -eventually- you don't know much about midi i undestand your "headache"...

NI maschine isn't a soundcard,it's just a controller but with better intergration...(and bundled with many samples)
As far for the digital connection ,yeap I always use normal RCA audio cables with no problem...
On 909 I miss the slider which you could control pitch, bpm or both...super feature!...for me it had too many features which i would never(but always tempted) to use so i sold it and got a kp3(new) and a 505.
To be honest I also didn't like it's sound...too bright and digital, not harsh but too crystal!...

ok for the NI maschine (is not tempting me)
for the coaxial: damn i payed 7€...fortunately i used just one of them so i can return them on the shop...and money back...i dont know anything about coaxial/spdif etc so wait for other post coming man :) !
for the 505:
what do you think about this machine? and is its digital in working also as "out"?i'v tried it with 606 digi out>505 digi in and it worked, not the contrary (i put the 606 imput on "digital" don't worry)

for the mc909: i was just curious about it and the mc808 because i got the roland d2 and i like very much its sequencer so i was wondering if...

unfortunately 505 has only digital inputs...digital inputs-outputs have the same philosophy on connection as the analogues ones ,so you can't use an input as an output
I took 505 for the ability to pitch things and I used it along with 606 for resampling stuff (I run out of voices!)...great machine, nice sounding I would prefer 505 than an sp404 or an mpc500 but the workflow is slow
I can't help much for 909 stuff cause I rarely sequence stuff...only resampling!but don't go on 808:too much menu story....909 had almost all in front of you..
But hey...wait a moment...I think you are addicted on sampling gear!

yes i got too much samplers:303,505,606,1000,remix16,224 and su10...
i will sold some of them, too much is too much; plus, as you know, i recently work things also on pc, so...

the 404 and the 500 i tried also.
the 404 i didn't like the pads and the midi (not in sync with my digital recorders). but i miss the looper fx (that's why i bought a kaoss pad 2)...
the 500 has horrible pads but the sequencer is fantastic (when you get into it, after long long study...)

for the mc 909/808 dont worry it was just curiosity, and, seen the price, i think it'll rests curiosity :)

after one month of mumbling, i maybe found a "trick" (or maybe is better to call it hal trick, you will see).
the sp606 got 1 stereo out; so, for example, in ableton live, we could choose 1/2 out or 1 out and 2 out separately: the trick is that we can choose 1out for the recorded track(s) and 2in for the tracks to be recorded; this is not the best solution but however even if we record the new track on mono, we can listen to the other track(s) while recording without the trouble to record all the signlas via the 606...

another tip could have been the "other 606 out"...if only the headphone out could have been thought by roland as an alternative out (3/4 out...)...
