In terms of operation, its just like a 303 just without the lo-fi sampling, but Long mode is pretty lo-fi. You have a screen, so you can see and hear what you're doing. Believe me, all SPs run pretty much the same with the exception that some have more or less features than others, but its the same sample it and mutate it kind of deal.

606 can pretty much sample from any source, either a cd player, computer, turntable etc. Its a sampler ahead of its time but came out at the wrong time in its day. Its just misunderstood.

With the P606 program, you can sample patterns to a single pad or resample a pad performance stand-alone. Pitch and timestretch are 10 x greater than any SP with P606, no noise at all.

But thats my gripe, the best things are on the P606, I wish it can do it all on the SP606 itself without a computer.

Yeah, but with the MFX section of the SP-606 you don't need a separate lo-fi switch, as it has a bit crusher FX which does a pretty solid job.

I totally like the SP-606, and to be honest if it would have been portable, I'd instantly swap my SP-404 for one. Still though, it fits in a backpack easily and has a 4-tracks sequencer with which you can do loads. :)

It's perhaps the best SP to this day, especially for those that need an LCD screen to see what's going on.

yes friendeees, i love the bit crusher !! PATTERN resample is bonkers
i found a .pdf manual and im ripping threw it today. Im going to cram as much information as i can. all the "F 1,2,3" "func" primary and secondary commands are a little danting, but im sure it will be easier with time, trial, error....
its great that there is support on the forums. personally, I think we would be considered genius' if we put as much commitment and dedication into some educational/job bologne AKA we would be rich $$$..haha

yo where should i grab this p 606 proggie from.? japan roland website?

should i learn the 606 first (standalone)and then the p606 program? or all together

(606man has some deep shit on here  )

Although not too widespread it's floating around the web, a simple Google search should find it ( 'P606 download' ), but I do believe one of the Roland websites has an official link as well. Not entirely sure which one.

Also.. no official Windows 7 support, but it should run in it's 'legacy' mode.

It's useful to learn the SP-606 first as that's still what you are going to use, even with P606, but to be honest there's not that much extra to learn once you are familiar with the 606 itself.

Free Download courtesy of korakios, thank him and spank him.

On a last note, you can resample with live input. Just hit Input Source when resampling and you could sample your scratches or let a record play or whatever goes through your inputs along with your sample.

Yeah, doing so much with digital sample sources, that's actually one of those things I'm missing on my MV8800. The ability to just set it as the main audio device in Windows or Mac and just insta-sample everything I play back on my PC.

Stuff like that is so useful for a fast work-flow! 8)
