thinking about upgrading to 606 from 404 but have a ?

when you power down the sp 404, it changes all the bpms on your patterns...it has a default setting of like 96 or something...so you either have to remember all your bpm for your sequences, or write them down or something..is this the case with the 606? if so,i don't want it...

in 606 you can name your patterns, so you can always include the bpm in the pattern name. I remember also having some problems with the 606' bpm thing. Dope machine by the way

The 606 BPM thing has a weird thing where you can't change the original BPM of a pattern that you already made without pressing EDIT, then FUNC>BPM which brings up the "pattern BPM screen" in which you can change it there.

It was confusing to me at first, especially with SONG mode, but if set the BPM first then make a pattern it will stay that BPM when you leave that pattern unless you do above.

noice...i dont know, im tempted to either go with an mpc 1000 or sp 606...im kinda sick of the pads on the 404, and the 606 are identical...can you scroll through waveforms on a 606 and edit?...mpc's got those bad ass pads, plus the polyphony on-board kits, pitch control...i dont know i love the sp for alot of reasons, but might consider doin a 404 mpc 1000 combo and just dump everything into a tascam 8 track digi recorder

The pads on the SP-606 are very different to those on the 404, they are harder, more sensitive and do not go down like a button when you press them (which is what I most hated on the 404). However, it is a good idea to wait and see what Roland comes up with this winter, as the 606 is getting a bit old now (no compatibility with Windows 7, only 512MB cards, no more support from Roland...).

The saved pattern on the SP-606 will save the bpm though, you don't have to change them after you've loaded your song project.

Also, I personally think the 606 pads are some of the best in the SP series, easily beating those of the SP-555 and 404.

Yeah, I have to say that they are VERY responsive, so that's definitely true. The 606 pads you need to play a bit harder I think. :)
