I was trying to resample a loop that I ran through the isolator and tape delay effects earlier today. But the resulting samle was heavily distorted. I tried to resample at a lower volume, and that did the trick. But is there a way to overcome this without lowering the volume? Any help in the master effect? I tried the presets, but no luck.

My sample was quite bass heavy, so I guess this caused the clipping/distortion.

Remember that the Isolator FX tends to amp up / boost the sound. Be careful when using that. It can cut away high, mid or low frequencies, but also boost the overall volume when turned up higher than the mid knob position.

It should keep the same volume when keeping the knobs in mid position and when turning back only the knobs on the frequencies that you want to cut down a bit.

Naturally this will boost the other frequencies, without changing the volume.. if it changing it at all, it will lower the volume. Which can be boosted later on if needed... but it doesn't distort then.

Good point, PHeMoX, thanks for the input. Yeah, I did boost the low end, so that's probably it then. I'll have another go and try to get the same result by other means.

Yup, if you want to boost the low end, you could also try to cut the high end off instead using the Isolator FX. :)

Also try the low pass filter, the volume on it really accurate. I pretty much always have to resample a couple of times the get un distorted sound. I wish you hear the outcome before you record, but not reallty a big deal.

to get the cleanest possible sounding bass sometimes i'll just record the pad (or pattern) with applied effects into cool edit, amplify the volume... then sample it back into the 606 off cool edit... ur resample will turn out alot cleaner than if you let the 606 do it.

good tip, I have found that some samples you just have to mess with. Some you just cant get that low end and some is just too much. Makes me want to get my 303 back for resampling

That's true. It'll be a bit easier once I get hold of a laptop, I prefer to use the 606 away from my desktop studio.

Try to use the master effect by setting like that:
don't amplify the gain for low-high frequencies, set the crossover to 200Hz and use a gentle compression ratio ,lets say 3:1 up to 4:1 maximum...then mess with the threshold level until u find the right setting...

Thanks for the tip, korakios, I don't know that much about compressors. I'll give it a go :D

The downside of compressors is that it tends to cut off frequencies too, right? Meaning, something can sound good on one type of monitors, but not so good on monitors with a broader frequency range I think.

It's one of those 'FX' I'm not at all comfortable with using.

well...yes and no!if you use a multiband compressor then you can amplify or lower some frequencies of the band you select(high-low),but in normal comps you only bring up the low-volume material so it's not about frequencies...however if you overcompress a mix then the bass will come up cause the bass frequencies have more "energy" than the high-ones and that cause the "pumping" effect, very nice for drums....but also all the noise comes up!

it should not be treated as an effect at all in my opinion...dangerous stuff!but it's a useful tool especially if you choose some gentle settings ...

Yeah, I mean to say 'tool' there. It's not useful as an FX.
