I used to rock the 303 and 606, gave the 303 to a homie. Its good for resampling and freeing up tracks. I think you can slave the 404 to the 606, never tried, could possibly give you way more options. :o

I had both until yesterday, when I sold the 404. I was only using it to solve polyphony issues on the 606 really, because the latter has more and better functions (4-track sequencer, 2 MFX processors, screen for easier editing, USB connectivity, autochop, etc) and I needed some money for a new soundcard. But the 404's effects are great, it is dead simple to use and it has a higher polyphony than the 606, so if you don't have more gear than you can control at once (unlike me  ) and your music depends heavily on sampling, then the 404 may be a good partner. Otherwise, I'd go for a synth or groovebox, which would add extra functionality to your setup (making your own sounds, using an external sequencer to trigger your 606's samples, etc).

PS: Yes, you can actually slave your 404 to your 606 so you can take advantage of the 606's superior pads, synchronize them to the same tempo, and so on. The MIDI implementation in both machines is fine.

I think that it would be better to find a used sp505 and a korg miniKP rather a 404...with this way you have better pitchshift-chop functions, digital sampling from 606 and the loop effects of the 404 with the miniKP(plus many more)...but keep in mind that the 505 processor is a slow...!

Yeah, I did the 303 and 606 combo too. Makes the beats even more freakier. Now I'm doing the ESX-1 and 606 combo and I've found my signature sound.

606 with any sampler is a force to be reckoned with.
