lol but going to sell my sp404sx for a 606 as the sequencer is just not great for me, so how is the 606 in comparsion.

What is the maximum size for cf card I can use.

Big call there, dude, selling the SX for a 606. Maximum card size is 512mb, sequencer is fine by me (briefly tried a 404 at a mate's place & couldn't figure it out). Sequencer's got 4 tracks, but the 606 can only play 8 voices (mono) at once, so halve that for stereo. So don't get expect to make a symphony on it.

Think that the 606's sequencer goes up to 64 bars or something (never gone past 16), not sure if quantize is a big deal for you, but the 606's sequencer lets you drill down to 96 parts per quarter note. At that level of editing you can get anything sound loose or as tight as you like. Fine edits are done on a screen laid out like a tracker too. Which is super handy.

Recording to the sequencer can be done in a few different ways too (live, step sequencer, adding notes in the tracker screen). Have you got any experience with other sequencers etc?

Again thanks Unfolding.

yep have experience with mpcs, I can get the SX to sing so to speak and make beats but its too slow for me in workflow. It is like many have said a performance tool, I love the SX so was hoping the 606 would have the same aspects like the effects - minor differences I understand but is th workflow simply and easy as the sx. Shame there's no mark but I got a graphical editor.

plus by your comment unfolding saying its a big call is selling a sx a bad idea

The only thing I'm worried about is the size of the memory card which seesm so small compared to the sd version of the sx.

keep in mind the 8 note polyphony feels like more than on other 8 note sps because of mute groups.

No probs Acronym, what I meant back there by 'big call' was the way cats love their 404s here. Feels like the desktop SPs don't get half the love of the battery powered ones sometimes. Just surprised to read you're thinking of moving away from the 404.

The 606 is def better suited for studio/home use than live if that's much of a concern. I've never had issues with the card size either, but I don't tend to use super long samples.

A big plus of the 606 over the 404 (OG & SX) is that it can handle up to 32 banks of samples at once with a memory card. No load times, just jogwheel to the right bank & you're off.

Seems like the 606 has some pretty different effects to the 404s, no DJ FX & shit pitch shift but the feedback ripper & external sequence resample's a mad set of substitutes. Plus it has it's own synth for sampling/resampling, great for fleshing out thin samples.

In terms of workflow personally I can microwave on it reasonanbly quick. But Teewok takes the cake, a lot of his old battle beats were done in an hour or two of the sample getting posted. A lot of those beats were winners too.

Seeing you've also messed with MPCs then you should be fine with switching between workflows with a 606. I've got a 500 & struggled with it's workflow, feels like the 606 really spoiled me (instant access to everything in the 606 with no save/load times, not always running out of memory, most menu diving is shallow).

606 is very nice, most would trade their's for a 404, but you wanna go the other way around. Ok, the workflow is almost identical except for a few changes, it has a screen, 8 polyphony, 2 fx at the sametime or one at a time, 4 track sequencer, and Auto Chop. With a 512MB you get 3 hours sample time Standard or 6 hours on Long mode. Its a cool machine, expect the same wacko Timestretch though. Makes them go 'gobble-gobble' yo.

I enjoy the 404sx the mark feature is simply dope, I wish more samplers have that even with graphic waveforms.

external sequence resample??

So I can create a pattern and then resample that onto 1 pad?.

Ext resampling can only be done with the P606 software. You create your pattern within P606 then you sample it to a pad. Its all through the USB, so no loss on the sound because its digital to digital transfer.

Only the SP-555 can resample patterns internally.

Nah the Ext resampling can be done with any other device that's got midi. If you have a phrase in another sampler/groovebox/DAW you want in the 606 use the ext. It'll sample the phrase length exactly, with the sample set to alternate on/off & looping. I use it all the time sampling synths etc.

The P606 software isn't great. Acronym- stick with your current DAW.

But the 555 can self-sample patterns? Damn... So much want.

I only use the P606 for pitching samples. Don't know why Roland didn't put that in the SP. Didn't know that about the EXT resampling, kind makes the 606 a beast. I always saw it used for samples in P606 and have used it that way.

Yeah I so want the 555, Blavatsky has one and says its really nice. It also samples off the USB like the 606. Fucken Madlib jacked up the price with his video, they used to be $599.

Cheers guys, been offered a 555 or 606 now, not sure which one to get.

Can I ask though please what is the best slicing method, not going to autochop so is it basically a case of clipboard and ajusting the slice and end points?.
