i installed the latest drivers from roland, the 606 is set to 'vender driver 'on' but no icon appears in the mac's system sound preferences. can you use the 606 an an audio interface in osx 10.7/lion?

actually that worked. unfortunately audio from the 606 is coming in really low into garageband even with the 606 at full blast

In PC with the generic driver (Vender Driver OFF) there is no midi. Can you test midi tru usb plz?!
On garageband isn't any effect like leverer to bring the level up?If not you could use the Mastering effect (func-mastering) on the 606 like this:
Low/High Ratio 1:1 (means no compression)
Low/High Level +12db
You can use different levels for Low/High and always with Ratio 1:1.
That way 'mastering' acts like a nice leverer or 2 band Eq 8)

yeah i guess i can use the gain on the overdrive effect or will try the 606 mastering +12 thing. seems kinda ghetto but we'll see... will try to test the midi again. i tried it originally but the 606 was set to internal control. slightly more complicated than the 404

well i got it to record nice and loud now but still can't figure out the midi controller part. i read the support that came with the driver download but it's for os 10.4. can't see how to add the 606 as a midi device in mac 'audio midi setup'. the options are 'create aggregate device' or 'create multi-output device'

The only way (for now) is using another cheap usb midi-interface...Do you have any other (usb) gear with midi IO?

sorry not at the moment. may pick something up in the future but for now its not a big deal, i generally try to avoid midi to be honest. i'm content using the musical typing for adding vst basslines to beats

I think it only works as an interface if you boot in 32 bit mode, at least that's the only way I got it to work. (I used the Snow Leopard audio/midi drivers IIRC) As far as midi, (when I used it with ableton) you just choose the 606 as a midi in/out device, hit EXT, then hold FUNC and pad 5 (Note Trig) to use the pads. By hitting the V Link button, I also was able to assign the knobs/D-Beam via midi....not sure about any other DAW though. Sorry if that isn't helpful.

yeah it was working good for me. is your mac recognizing it in system sound preferences? did you go to the 606 usb menu and turn vendor driver off?

edit: 404th post!

If you feel going into deep sh** start from here:

BTW a cheap 10$ (or less) chinese usb midi interface would be more useful!

This makes me wonder whether, by turning vendor audio off, the 606 might be recognised as a USB audio interface for my ipad mini (via the camera connection kit). If that did work, adding a cheap USB midi interface might make the 'resample external midi' function on the 606 very convenient.
