Hi,

For those of you who want to have SP1200 gritty sound I have found SP505's LoFi FX settings that mimics SP1200 sound at its best. At least for me it sounds more or less like SP1200 when I apply these settings for the LoFi FX:

[check the attachment!]

Explanations!

First knob up to the maximum will give 44000kHz sound (SP505) but SP1200 have only 22000kHz sound so we turn it to the middle or a bit lower to have even more dirtier sound.

Middle knob should be turned to a position when it shows 12 BIT as the SP1200 is 12 Bit sampler.

And the third know should be turned up to max or bit lower than max.

And there you go something like a SP1200 from you 505.

Note that if you want to make all samples sounding like SP1200 when you are in the FX assign screen just hit the ALL ON and this will turn the FX on all samples in 505.

Keep rockin'

Olby

Wow, I just tried this on the 606 and I'm surprised how well it works. Not exactly like a 1200 but puurty close.

hey olby, what's good

I bought a 505 from you back in 2009, I actually haven't used it for a while but I brought it back out this past week (along with my sp-202)

I'm planning to use it just to record samples and get that grimey sound, then record them to Roland sp-404 for EQ if necessary and export to mac

I will definitely try your settings, do you have any other suggestions for my sampling process (turntable, sp202, sp505, sp404) ?

yeah "long" mode is pretty cool, sometimes it adds this harmonic whine/frequency that I don't like though (noticed on the 22k function for Microsampler too) - not in a good lofi way to me, I have to filter it out after sometimes.

Keep in mind 22k sampling is still going at 16 bits, so will not sound like the 12bit/22k sound exactly.

you can sometimes get cool sounds when you pitch the ringing sample, usually pitching down makes it sound cool.

Wish Olby was still rocking this unit....But, I'm sure he's happy with his MV8800....I'm thinking of getting one of those MUCH later, but for now, the 505 will fit the bill.

the MV is nowhere near as easy to operate, but more feature rich.

Yeah, I'm not trying to outgrow the sp505 for at least 6 months after I get it home, and I saw alot of features that the MV has, which made me go "Wow....", but at the same time, I don't think I'm ready for that thing. I have other purchases I'll need to do over some time, so the 505 will keep me busy until then.

I can see myself trying to scope for a MV8800 later, but for now, I'm good.

it's not exact but i pitch the record up from 33 to 45 plus 10%, sample in standard or hi-fi (depends) then pitch it down in the sampletrak for similar artifacts (that ringing shit.)
