Hi,

So I finally managed to record that tutorial video I promised and hopefully covered all required functions of the SP-505 you are interested in. If not, then ask me and I might take a new video. In this tutorial I explained something about: sampling, sequencing, editing, chopping and pitching.

Here you go:

TUTORIAL PART 1
TUTORIAL PART 2
BEAT MADE DURING THIS TUTORIAL (With Beatnuts vocals from other remix I did earlier)

I hope you like this tutorial!

Regards,
Olby

Awesome! Thanks Olby.

Just sent you a PM... Great timing as I just purchased an SP-505, which should be arriving any day..

I'm hoping my decision to go with the 505 instead of the 606 was a good one - although I supposed it has saved me a LOT of money :)

No biggie as you've explained it all pretty well!

Yeah, I tried to fix this by turning on the macro mode but the digital camera I used to shot this was not quite focusing when I shot this video.

Damn, I like the 505 more than the 555. I'm going to buy one when I get some more money. You make the best sp videos I've seen on the net, you should hit up Mike Acosta for a job doing demos at trade shows.

505 is great. I miss mine sometimes...especially that lovely pitch bank ! Olby your videos are always dope...also seems like your english has gotten better. One thing I noticed though... when you sample I would try to keep your level just barely peaking over the 2nd to last bar (the one over the little line) It will help you with using the autochop features which works incredibly well on melody/bass samples aswell as drums when the waveform display can see the peaks of the wave.

Thanks for mentioning it Frantic,

I in fact always try to keep my sound up to the peak level but no more. But when I sample from vinyl that has lots of noise there is no other way just to crank up the volume so that the original sound under the cracks, hits and pops are loud otherwise I am getting very noisy sample with a low sound of the melody itself.

Anyway thanks for the kind words!
I will do my best to improve over those videos as in my daily life I am not speaking English too much. ;)

If ya have any requests I will try to make videos 'bout them.
I plan to make a video for/about MICROSCOPE edit. Will it be any use for you? I saw a person who would like this video in other 505 topic. :)

Cheers,
Olby

No, I haven't used 404 for like last 4 to 5 months - only to record my beats. Sometimes I use 404 to record 505 drum beats into one 2 bar loop thus saving the 505's polyphony by just playing my sequenced drum loop.

Basically I use both machines side by side but the beat production is only on 505 mostly.

i understand. does the 505 have the ability to sequence the 404? I think the 404 next to the 505 could make a great live setup. do you play any live gigs?

and how is the efx in the 505 compared to the 404's? like the lofi efx on the 404?

maybe you can do a little 505/404 comparison in your next video? i really like your videos. i remember i liked your values 404 video to.
thank's for the quick ansver by the way!

no i have not used 505 for gigging I am of those type that sit in comfortable chairs sip some beer and have mad fun producing drunken beats ;)

all fx are quite the same except they sound dirtier as the sampler AD/DA converters are only 20 bit. those the samples are dirtier.

Ok when I will have some time I might think of something like that.

The 505 has by far the WORST midi implementation of anything ive ever seen :) It cant really control ne thing... it can...but only 1 octaves worth of control and there must be a sample on the pad for the pad to transmit anything. When I had the 505 and 404 I tried this but it didnt work at all. I think I was maybe able to trigger a couple of sounds but not much.

Get a yamaha QY100 if you want a midi sequencer, they have pads and some decent synth sounds.
