whats up 505 users.. this machine is too dope for making beats from start to finish for me.. i have made a lot of new patterns and want to make more but I have a question about backing up old patterns for future use..

how can I back up all 100 patterns to my computer so I can later load them back to work on the beats? I have a USB to smart card adapter and also know how to backup patterns to the smart media however there is only 16 backup pattern spaces.

thank you for reading and any help

wow, 100 patterns...
well, try to save all the patterns in one session and if it doesn't works ( if it says "full" or something like that) try to save "block by block" the 100 patterns...i know it could be annoying and boring but...

Thanks for your reply ellaguru..

so if I understand correctly, on the 505 when you back up sequencer data it will save all of the 100 patterns to one slot on the memory card?
however when you load this data back off the card it erases all of the samples on the internal memory?
so is the proper procedure to back up samples from the internal memory to the memory card first. second to back up your sequencer data to the card. then load the sequencer data off the card and then load the sample data off the card back to the internal banks?

Will the Preset pattern banks also be erased when I load?

the preset banks will be always there, no way to clear them.

i am really curious about this as well. i have about 90 pieces on the 505 and will need to save and dump 'em to move on.

so yeah. dossy, if you are willing to try this out for the team, let us know what you figure out!

thanks ellaguru for the internal banks answer.

fauna i'll let you know how it goes. think i'm going to back up all of the data from the card to the computer and then go from there.

i tried copying the card data to my laptop using a card reader however I received an error and it would not copy all of the files.. this has happened to me using a 303 before as well. this time however when i put the card back in the 505 none of the samples or patterns were corrupted, so its okay as long as i keep this card the way it is.

is there any other 505 users out there who can help me out with backing up patterns and samples? do you ever get your beats corrupted on the card by trying to copy to your computer?

yo i called roland support on this and they tried it out for us as a test. he made a quick pattern with internal samples (he had sampled), backed up the pattern to the card as a set, erased the pattern, then reloaded the pattern set from card.. he said everything played right with the samples sampled from internal memory. he said make sure you also backup your internal samples to the card slots as well in case.
