HI guys!
I'm new to the forum!
I'm going to buy an SP-505 and I have a couple of points that are not clear for me. :?
Does the SP505 sounds like the SP303 (dry sound)?
(I read here and there different opinions..)
Does the SP505 plays pitched parts with good results?
I'm used to MPCs and the pitch function (16 levels) is really handy to get a bass or a melody along with the beats, hope the 505 is almost quite as handy...
thank you very much!
:D

hi
i own both.
the 303 sounds more warmy in my opinion, while the 505 sounds more "pro" (but not that "pro", don't misunderstand that :) )
the 505 got a pitch scale function, different from mpc 16 level: it's a sort of pitch shift scale, it don't touch the sample lenght, it operate to the sound of the sample with 3 different algorytmics ("hi", "lo" and "music", that's how are they called), and this is good, according to the sample quality, for basses, synths, chords etc
in other words, the samples will got the same lenght along the 16 (or even more) pads...they go up to 32 in the pitch banks...

Thanks Ellaguru!
I'm Francesco!
I studied the manual to decide if to go or not to go for the SP... and I noticed the lack of a "real" pitch function, it can only use the v-synth technology to create the pitched patch but you cannot pitch a sound on different pads as on the MPC or in the Sampletrack.
That's quite strange but I think I can work with this method too.
It seems that the SP consider the pitch an effect, not a sample setting.
If you want to create that classic low pitched voice sample maybe the sp is not capable of doing it in a classic way.
The question about the sound is here because a friend of mine , that owns the SP505 , told me that at full volume the machine "saturate" like a industrial distortion, he told me that's a good saturation, not bad , but I could not understand wellthis fact, as from what I remember the SP303 has a raw sound but not distorted, so I thought "the SP505 sounds quite different..."

No, the Pitch Function and Pitch Shift are two different things on the 505.

Pitch can take a sample and spread them out on the pads to be played like a keyboard, hence the piano look of the pads. Like Ella said it doesn't affect the length of the sample.

Pitch Shift is an effect and it gives the sample a high pitched voice like a chipmunk or a low voice like Barry White and the length of the sample isn't affected neither.

Pitch Tuning is probably what you want, which slows or speeds up a sample and pitches change. Sorry, the 505 doesn't have that.

ahahha
non t'avevo riconosciuto!
guyz, this friend on mine is a killer in music synth/samplers knowledge! :D
check his interesting site i posted sometimes yet...

a presto bello!

Thanx Ellaguru!
too good!
I'm just a synths & samplers enthusiast :D
The 505 seems to be a weird machine from what I read, so I'd like to try it...
the pitch behaviour is strange and it makes me curious...
