what's up, peeps?

i usually do not use the time stretch on the 505 (like, the 'phrase' rather than 'single' setting inside wave edit), but i was messing with it last night and came across something interesting.

it seems to me if you set a sample to 'phrase' and then reverse it (ie: put that sample's reverse mode 'on') it sounds far, far better, and not as 'gappy' and shitty as the normal time stretch does.

anyone else found this? i was surprised by how much better it sounded....

that is really interesting

it must be selecting transients inversely, looking 'backwards' at the wave. thus when you flip it again, the forward transients aren't affected by whatever the SP-505 does

any chance of some audio examples?

'single' just plays the sample as it is (you can further set it as gate, trigger, or drum), whereas 'phrase' will time stretch the sample to the bpm of the sequence.

EDIT: after poking around on the five-oh a bit more, i don't think 'phrase' gets applied to reversed samples.

the reason i wasn't hearing the gappy phrase sound is because it wasn't being applied. the sample was so messed up, backwards, it sounded like it was coming in on time (but no...).

checked the manual, but didn't see anything about reversed samples not getting their timestretched phrase on. but my experiments suggest not.

For some reason, timestretching sounds better when you change the bpm of a pattern.

I remember sampling and chopping the sample and making it a phrase. Then apply it to a pattern with the same bpm as the sample. As the pattern plays just adjust the bpm and the sample changes too with way less noise. Weird.
