what up everybody, recently started using the 505 and noticed that the stock samples amplitude looks like its peaking on the screen since the wavform extends past the edges. does this mean that after i sample something onto a pad i should amplify it after sampling to extend past the borders of the screen as well or would that cause a drop in quality/clipping?

that's a good question. i don't really think the solid block of waveform is really all that accurate, or that it shows that it is peaking. i think it may just be the limitations of how they're representing it graphically. i think anything at a medium volume looks much the same.

so i'm not sure. but i amplify a lot of my samples after sampling them, and just do it by ear. i find the 505 to be pretty forgiving when it comes to peaking / clipping, so i often will amplify stuff by 200 and 300 %.

hope that helps. good luck.

Nah, no need to amplify. As you know those are just presets, the programmer that installed them probably wanted a consistant sound for all the pres to give the 505 that shinning armour. But over time when you fill up the banks with your own samples and review them you'll notice the different level in sound in all of them depending on your preference at that time when you sampled them.

If you do amplify, do it to your ears content and audition them before hitting Execute because sometimes amplifying does clip and distort samples.

^True. If u amplify and it clips it can't be undone so mess around with a duplicate
