Are they the same pads as the 303?

I've found one used for >$200 and after watching Olby's videos I'm impressed. Never knew the 505 had such powerful editing and the pitching seems to be a little more useful. Just wanted to know how the pads were before I commit to buying it.

hi hema
the sp303 pads are exactly the same of sp505, a little bit bigger indeed. i saw those videos too, and after talking in this forums with olby himself i sold my sp606 to buy this beast.
i found the pitch function unique and not only in the sp world (look at the samplers i got).
cheers

Thanks man. I was hoping one of you guys would tell me that. It's lookin like next Tuesday I'll be ordering a 505 then. It'll be nice, maybe I can get on the next Skeleton Crew beattape.

the pads are great, hema. the pitch is a little hit and miss, but if yr not looking to pitch a sample across a full chromatic run, then you'll be fine. it works for pitching shit into key, or taking a sample and giving yrself three or four dif notes to use. it CAN do a chromo run of 12 notes, but often a few of them get dodgy and sound nothing like the original.

and yeah, olby's vids convinced me to get the 505 too. we should give that guy an award.

i can't say enough good stuff about the 505.

All I'm lookin to get outta the pitching is the occasional detuned drum or a few notes. If It can do that without roboticizing the sample I'm more than content.

I really really have to ask why you'd sell your 606 to get a 505.

I'm about to sell the 505 to get the 606 because the 505 doesnt transmit velocity sensitivity through midi.

personally i got some bugs with the 606.
when i used it with 2fx trying to switching patterns the machines went in tilt.
everytime.
i think the 505 edit is more complete than the 606 one.
and im a maniac of the 505 pitch function too.
i dont miss the sensitive pads and the .wav save...

personally, i get around the lack of velocity sensitivity on the 505 by just creating a pattern, then adjusting the volume of some of the samples after. so easy in the wav edit screen to get some hats and kicks a bit louder than their brothers, which is basically all i do w/ velo sens on my other machines.
