i have the sp-606 from 3 hours...i chopped a sample with autochop, but you can even choose a start point and a end point, independently from autochop...
3 hours is not still enough...

So you're considering getting rid of it already?! lol

Man, I'd be glad to have the option of manually chopping, autochop is good on the 505 but sometimes I get annoyed if I wanna do some detailed shit.

Chopping on the 606 is pretty dope... what i do is i sample my chop onto each pad in one bank.... when I got all my sounds ready I then go in and set my start and end points... I never used a 505 but since the 606 has a screen you can zoom in on the wavform and really set ur mark with precision... I only use autochop for the drums or for development in the beat sometimes when u just wanna toss around the sample

yeah but on 505 you can easily do this using just one sample using the 'add chop point' button. i still think none of the sp can beat 505's chopping which is very similar on how it is done on mpc.

when I decided to go with 505 i checked all of the 505 and 606 specs and made a list with + and - of both machines and thus I came to conclusion that features that 505 and 606 lacks are the most important for so I went on with 505.

hi olby, i see most of your youtube sp-505 videos. good job.
me i decided to go with sp-606 because instead of sp-505 you can import/export .wav, i work with other samplers and a pc and so to me this point is important...but i recently discovered that sp-505 works in 20bit like sp-303, to me a great quality in sound...finally sp-303 and sp-505 are the same machine, but sp-505 got a sequencer, a complete screen and a good (is the ONLY sp wich have that) pitch function...for me, if sp-505 would have got export .wav it would really be comparable to the mpc...but one question:

the sp-606 got sensible pads, is the same for sp-505?

@ ellaguru - the pads on the 505 are not velocity sensitive, no.

they are not velocity sensitive but you have that PAD ACCENT button which sets the default velocity for all the pads you hit. So for example you can have one pad recorded at different times with different velocity (volume) you don't need to resample or tweak the parameters. also IIRC 505 recorded velocity coming in from a MIDI controller so if you really need something done with velocity then you can have it. but i never used velocity pads even on my mpc and mv 8800 I prefer to modify my drums later on adjusting the volume of each note manually.

I got a pad controller to add velocity sensitive response to my 303 and I really like it, but I gotta say 90% of the time I don't use it at all. I do like the larger pads though and since I have a padkontrol they still light up and look cool at night which is when I work on beats.

concerning the pitch function of sp-505: can we apply this only to make 2 or 3 notes and not all the bank pads? after that is it possible to have(save) this 2-3 notes as samples (in order to sequence those)?

no when you use the pitch function it will always use one full bank (there are 1 pitch banks available) then when you are done you can copy pads that you want to spare to a standard sample bank using the clipboard function. and as 505's clipboard is stackable you can do this real easy with 3-6 pad hits.

i think that this machine is the best of the sp series...if only got .wav export it woud be perfect.
the sp-606 is also good but i feel the sp-505 is more complete. it works at 20bit wich is good (sp-303 also got this sound and it is great, intead of the "nicely" 24bit of sp-404), instead i can't find in my manual any news about the sp-606 bit....

how does your mv 8000 (or 8800) sounds?

emmm...mm...eee.. well ... like MV 8800 ! :D

nah seriously it has it's own soft sound. mpc has very sharp sound for example. you see.. each gear has it's own sound. i cannot say that some i like better and some not they suit each of their own style. but yeah 505 of the all I had was the grittiest. hope the guy I sold it enjoys it as much as I did.

Yeah... I'd have to agree with all the pro-505 statement made thus far. Gotta say that the only setbacks I've found when comparing it to the 555 are the low poly, which means taking a different approach to building the beat from the very jump, and the fact that it has far fewer effects that the 555, which limits the sound design possibilities.

Great machine, but I recently switched back to the 555 after using the 505 exclusively for a couple months, and I gotta say that I think I prefer the 555.
