I got a 505 recently cheap, but for about $100 more I could get a 606. Is the upgrade worth it? Ain't had the 505 long enough to judge it yet.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

i sold my 606 to get a 505. the 505 is much smaller, which i liked, and i had an mpc so a lot of the stuff the 606 did over the 505 was redundant for me. the 606 is basically the same as the 505 with a few major additions (as i see it).

1) MUCH FASTER PROCESSING TIME (which is a BIG deal)
2) velocity sensitive pads
3) 2 silmultaneous MFX and a few new fx
4) its also a usb audio/midi interface (but most people have that covered)

A few things the 505 has that the 606 is missing

1) Pitch banks (pitch shift a sample chromatically across 16 pads while keeping its tempo in tact)
2) The 505s amazing clipboard

i probably left some stuff out, but that's a start. oh, also the 606 looks like a cheap toy. its like some third rate video game console from '99. the 505 is no beauty, but its got charm. Kinda like they just skipped trying to imbibe it with any aesthetic value whatsoever.

The pitch function seems kinda important.

i THINK the 606 has pitch via the mfx, whereas the 505 has that plus a pitch bank.

but i am pretty sure the 606 allows you to pitch. anybody?

Yeah, the 606 has FX that change the pitch, it also has newer CF cards instead of smart media and larger storage. Even a 512mb CF card is a rarity these days though.

I don't know, the 505 seems to have a more advanced autochop, doesn't it?

Thanks Phemox & fauna. I think the 505 my be on it's way out and in with the 606 unless I hear a more convincing reason to keep it.

there's a clipboard, but its not stackable like the 505s (aka only 1 sample on the clipboard at a time).

if you like your drum breaks to be chopped into individual drum hits then i suppose autochop would be very obnoxious..... (wtf?)

another difference
sp-505 can play patterns "live-in-line" like sp-404, i don't know if sp-606 can do that (i'll see in the next days when it arrives to me.. 8) )
sp-606 has ROLL and sp-505 has'nt....

cheers

505 can chop manually (add and remove chops) and automatically, 606 can chop only automatically as far as i remember. 505 has better clipboard, 505 has pitch function. Don't know but I think the 505 also has grittier sound compared to 606.

i just received this one this morning...i will post a video for comparing sp-404 and sp-303 quantizing, and you will see also this beast!

anyway, in the manual is not marked how much bit has AD and DA from sp-606...but i know sp-505 has 20bit (like sp-303, instead of sp-404 wich has 24bit), a very "dirty" and warm good sound, that's why i would like (also for this) to try this one...

i think the 606 is 24 bit.
also the chop is better on the 505 but is sooo time consuming. having to twist the dial, preview, twist again, preview... you get the point. i often feel like i'm wasting mad time on the 505, but i like it's feel too. i got to say that the autopitch is uninspiring for a product of thsi caliber. i just downloaded a free app. on my ipod touch that does the job way better which opens a whole new canna worms i know. the app is called voicekeyboard lite and it says it7s free until feb 28.

oh and for the memory alone i would get the 606.

I thought the 606 could chop completely manually (as in none of that "resolution" bullshit, just put the slice where you want it)
