I have toyed arond with my buddy's 404, and I was thinkin of getting one myself. I saw a used 505 listed for 200. I read up on it, and it seems to be a cool machine. Does anyone have one, and if so, is it good deal? Or, should I just save up the extra 2hundred and get the 404?
I'm looking to do simple phase and loop sampling, much like madlib and dilla(donuts).

Yea, I got a 505. I like the 404 better. But the 505 is not to be slept on. Its got some sick features and nice sound. If u got ne more detailed questions let me know.

Doesnt the 505 have bpm sync? If so, then that would be alot better for looping. plus it has loads of other cool features.

I find the 404 seems to be more suited towards small disconnected chops as getting long samples to sync can be quite frustrating.

I dont really mess with long loops so I wouldnt know :) The BPM sync basically time stretches all your samples to fit the current tempo. Ive never actually used it so dont know how well it works. I do know you have to have your loop choped pefectly for it to work right.

...well basically I'm at a standstill with sequencing basic beats. I overstand the effects and sampling features...haven't done much wit chop'n yet....tips and tricks if you can provide for the 1, 2, 3 punch I'm open.

Dj Frantic, I got a good listen to ya site on myspace...I'm definitely dig'n the vibe. I'm an R & B singer by my gospel roots....let's do a collabo if ya feel.
