Don't break ya neck with this. Just buy yourself an XD to SM converter and plug it into the SP-505. XD cards are cheaper and still available. There is nothing different using XD cards except you will not be able to close the card locker door because of the converter sticking like less than 1 inch out of the 505.

I do like this and never had any problems with it.

Hey Olby,

I bought a XD to SM converter (see picture below) off ebay and an xd card but when I insert the XD to SM converter into the 505 the 505 does not recognise the card! Do you think i am doing something wrong?

The SM cards I have work fine with it...

I have tested the XD to SM converter with my computer card reader and that works fine.. I'm stumped.

Do I need to format the card? I don't see how i can do that if the 505 does not recognise the card in the first place...

cheers,

Camtona.

You got it wrong inside! YOU SHOULD PUT THE CARD INTO THE 505 UPSIDE DOWN with the golden plated contacts pointing downwards. I can give you 99% that this is the cause of the problem. When I got 505 at first I got inserted it the wrong way too. When its correctly inserted in the System->Card do the card formatting and you are ready to go.

Peace,
Olby

thanks Olby, I thought of this one too. double checked that I had it upside down and it still does not work.

upon closer inspection of the converter, the gold contact is not in exactly the same place when compared with my SMC card... I think this may be causing the problem.

I may just need to get a better quality XD to SM converter.

thanks again for your help, will let you know how I go.

Hmm, darn you got into that 1% of unknown error zone :) I have two XD to SM converters and one is the same like you got and it works ok. I got it off ebay last year from a Chinese dude selling them. Guess it is something wrong 1) with your XD to SM adapter, 2) SM card (most probably I guess) 3) 505's SM card contact may be bent or something like that.

yep. I think it is the xd smc converter. The converter's gold plate does not line up exactly when compared with my SM card that does work...

I have ordered another xd smc converter off ebay today. I chose a xd smc converter that looks a little different from the chinese ones. hopefully it will work.

cheers.
