They stated a while back that the initial run would be only 100. I think it will get slightly cheaper but it doesn't need to. It really raises the bar from what I can tell. If I had the moolah I would've bought it. It's amazing what dropped at namm this year.
I'll be getting a new looper for sure.

I ordered one. I've been waiting for this thing to come out for a long ass time. Interested to see what it can do, though I'm not banking on it being "the one" piece of gear that'll change my life. Wish it had MIDI is my only :?

i preordered as well, the first run was 500 by the way. sold out in 24 hours.
right now 100 beta units are on their way to beta testers already.

I share KOMSATs feeling about the OP1, I think it will change my life

i won't be buying one for a few years either. I can't wait to hear what you early users have to say.

Tim; i like the tempest, boss rc-30(3), octatrack, arturia spark, the ipad dock by alesis, the akai eie i/o, etc...
there are some pieces that are hyped that i am skeptical about like the akai analog pedal series or the korg kronos. and I'm really dissapointed about the kaoss quad. not because it's a bad idea but because it doesn't fulfill any needs i have. I would love to get a tempest. i will be getting a rc-30(very excited since it's exactly what i've been waiting for). my friend will be recieving his octatrack soon, which i'll get to play; at least when he gets over the 'my precious' faze (which might take a while).
for me the best news is that roger linn will be releasing his ubersampler this year or so he says.

I don't understand the complaints about the price. The microkorg was about this price when it dropped. Microkorg is a mass-manufactured thing. This is a boutique instrument with one of the most creative interfaces I've ever seen. The way you visually edit everything by color is brilliant. TAPE! Nothing else has a tape function like this. It does things that nothing else does!

damn that SPARK is RAD and pretty much exactly what i would be looking for. like a tribe on crack but with drummable pads... i kinda wish it wasnt chained to the computer but thats the direction things are going. ive been watching the octatrack for a long time but honestly the price is scaring me... its a powerful piece of gear and i know it would be rad to own but its hard for me to say yea lets drop 1800 on something when ive never touched anything they have made. the demos were "meh" at best too. once it releases i think ill get more juiced on seeing "real" people use them and talk about it

Very good news! The tempest looks dope but I want a real MPC killer!

I dont get why they didn't make the OP-1 a proper full-desktop size unit with normal plugs/controls..

I would totally have gone for it then.. but as it is it seems to be kinda like the musical version of an iPad - fun/noodling device.. sure its a cool sound source, but it doesn't really fit with other gear well (plug size, midi) and the interface relies on a very small number of control elements (looks cool, but not as fun to tweak)

I might grab one if they are alot cheaper one day, as a cheap FM box.. the looping and stuff looks cool but I'd have wanted more connectivity with other things, more Is/Os.. etc

I think the price is about right for a small company.. They are definitely making alot of money from it, but that's the way music gear has always been in the market. (why I'm making my own where I can) If it was made by a mass-manufactured company it probably would have cost the same as an X - electribe but the extra cost is because they only did low product runs and have a small business.

I think the price is fair considering the build quality (solid metal case, oled display, high quality encoders) and the small runs. Regarding ins and outs, I'd mostly blame that on Teenage Engineering not being "music" gear producers normally (one of their biggest products up till now was a modular lighting system) and them being weird/Swedish. Hopefully if the OP-1 does well we could see a full-size OP-2 with MIDI, aftertouch and 1/4" ins and outs.
