All the videos on the Roland site only showcase the features being used as originally intended, but I think they should support the community around these samplers and show the work arounds people have discovered so that people can see what they can really do with them. This could help give Roland an advantage over akai for supporting the spirit of making the best music possible even with limited samplers, after all that's what underground music is about and no one really capitalizes on it right now, akai sells there product on the fact that a lot of signed artists use them, but if Roland represents underground music then they can dominate a completely untapped market in new samplers being made. Akai tries to sell samplers at a ridiculously high price considering the price of software solutions, but making affordable samplers and selling more units is a safer bet for hardware samplers since you can increase your customer base to include everyone from curious beginners all they way up to pros who like simple all in one solutions for beatmaking like they remember from back in the day. Just some thoughts, but since Mike Acosta is here I thought I'd give some feedback. Mike is smart for coming to this site because he can give Roland a lot of valuable user information and design thoughts. P.S Roland should release a madlib/quasimoto Sp-303 sampler with the same 20bit A/D converters with some upgrades like midi out and and usb w/sample editor program, CF card, all the new 404fx, all the 555 quantize options, battery power and velocity sensitive pads

hah thats what the madlib expansion pack is for.

Ive always recommended that roland make a now frills mini groovebox. The 303 is close, but it just needed a better sequencer. Like the sequencer on the sp-1200 is perfect and that is beyond ancient technology, im sure they can replicate that easily in this day and age. Otherwise, just add velocity sensitive pads, a new sequencer and also maybe a simple attack and decay control of each sample and then that would be my ideal instrument...

Now frills or gimmicks just the bread and butter tools for sample based composition.

Yeah that would be cool. But its kind of refreshing that they dont. Flipping technology has been part of hip hop since day 1. for example the turntable, mixer, the sampler were never intended to be used the way they are commonly used today.
Eventhough the SP workarounds may not be as ill as some of the technology flipped in the past, but its still sick to see cats doing this shit.

I dont know the biz, but I would imagine the age group that purchase these products wouldnt understand what the SPs are all about. they just know its the cheapest option. When you say something is limited and needs workarounds- thats bad. I would think a company would rather adverstise a "sleek looking, feature packed, newly improved, perfect machine" that falls apart after a couple months. In the end, its all about the Benjamins baby!!!

Business is all about finding unconquered markets and akai kinda has the whole fancy all in one super machine portion of the market locked up, so why compete on that side of the market when your rival can still sell a 20 year old design off the name on the box.

I hear what your saying drsample. the sp cats who purposly set limits on their technology is kinda evolving into a small culture. I think its a bad idea though for a company to tap into this though because like many other things it will become watered down to the point the purpose is defeated.

it would be cool though if more artists did videos repping the SP. I been thinking about making something for a while.

Roland should release a Juxt sp-404 with pitch control. :)

I'd make as many videos as beats if I had a video camera.

Ha Ha Ha, yeah making music is all I do so I have much time to post, I have other ways of making money so I don't have to work a 9-5 anymore. Keesj wanted me to post on the next battle since I have so much time so that'll probably be my next post. Oh yeah and like Chapelle said "Can't stop, won't stop, eh eh.

I know you have the highest post count, I'm comin' for you Juxt. You don't have to worry though, 'cause you're a Mod and that trumps post count any day of the week.

I only posted one beat and it was garbage so I'm not mad. I never enter the battles anymore 'cause I have fragile ego and like to win, but everyone else post some fire so I usually don't compete.
