a couple months ago i sa wthe sp404 online and i wanted it
really bad but i didnt have the money so after a couple of weeks i saw the mc 909 and the 808 and found out that rza used oe of these units so i tried saving up coz i figured i wanted the 909. coz of my low-paying crappy job i only made enuf for an sp404. i had it for about a week now no other equipment but my ipod and occassionaly using my roomie's computer. i have no musical background but when i got my hands on madlib..ayatollah..earlier wu..mf doom i wanted to make beats. i am determined to. im still werking my around the sp but im overwhelmed with it. its a wicked machine!! still trying to learn how to sequence, song structure..i got a longggg way to go.
-time shouldnt be an issue

any advice?
do i need anymore essential equipment for recording my song
to upload it or put it in cds?

props to lord beatjitzu i dig your outputs.
thanks in advance

If thi is your 1st machine i say stick with it and try ro master it.Yu dont really need anything else.If you master the 404 you can make beats on anything pretty much!

I'm no expert myself (yet), but I have a feeling that the SP-404, much like the ancient game of Go, takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master. You might want to invest in an inexpensive audio recording device with line-in input--such as a tape deck (Walkman Pro, etc.), Hi-MD or MDLP MiniDisc (MZ-RH10 or MZ-N707, etc.), or low-end flash recorder (Edirol R-09 or Zoom H2, etc.)--to shuttle audio back and forth to the SP. You could sequence a beat, send it to the recorder, then back to the 404 as a sample.

if the funds are low and you got access to a computer you can cop a griffin imic. It actually sounds very good. I got mine for $25 dollars. You can download a ton of free recording programs to go with it.

Get the MC 909 you wont be sorry, I'm only sorry that I sold mine. You will learn sequencing fast and easy on that. Real time recording, step recordind, 16 tracks with 16 time overdub per track, a HUGE lcd screen, tons of effects, hundreds of stock sounds, sampling and chopping is top knotch, 16 key piano board. I've owned MPC's, SP 202, 303, 606, asr-10, but this piece...my friend, is all that. Get one.

I would get a zoom multitrack. If you want something cheap and functional. I actually like the sound alot better than the tascam pieces.
