I was at my local dj store the other day and talkin' samplers with the dude who runs it and he heard from someone that Roland is in the works on a "sp-707" with on 8 track sequencer and other goodies. I searched the web but found no such info. Anyone know if this is true?

well,

it might explain why the 555 is so retarded - by providing something else for the beatmakers, it means the 555 was only ever meant to be a DJ box type deal... which would almost rationalize its lack of upgrades.

on the other hand. . they would just be reducing 555 sales even more. . its hard to tell though - because theyve obviously spent very little money updating it from the 404 and are selling it for alot more (too much for the dj market!?)

and just quietly, an SP with 8 sequence tracks makes me wet just thinking about it... so here's hoping youre right

^ No sh*t, I don't know why they havent done that yet, but I'm not mad at it. The MC 909 is nice with 16 tracks to sequence bot in a box like the 606...would be in my intrest.

I was on FP earlier and read a post in which someone recommended that Roland should make a scaled down series of the MV-8800/8000. I think that would would be pretty rawsome, it's about time Roland took Akai head on, I think there should be one for $500, one for $1000, and one for $1500, with varying levels of features, all should have velocity sensitive pads and a real pitch shift, maybe a like 8 tracks to sequence on the cheapest and more as you go up.

Those mo fo's must have read my thread^. Plus it makes since to release a 707 right after the 555, they're pulling an Apple and releasing the 555 to keep money flowing while doing R&D on a 707, they actually wouldn't lose money at all since the 555 is just a 404 rehash with no real money put into extra development. If any one @ Roland reads this , Holla atcha boy on a Private Message 'cause I would love to do some development on a real mpc-KILLER.

Sounds ill. I just hope they maintain the functionality of hte 303/404/555. Im not against a graphic display... But I would very much like for the mark button to still be there ! And still have dedicated buttons for navigation... like those and the 505 had. And of course... the ever elusive pitch control :)

someone mentioned midi. The 555 will be able to control external midi devices thru its out.

That's probably the best idea for a sampler I've ever heard of in my life, Only if had the exact same sound as the SP-1200 and pressure and velocity sensitive 303/304 style pads.
