@Kel
Great write-up. I’ve been wondering about those things for a minute. The “flatten sample” function sounds great. How is it in the bit crunch/lofi effect offering? Seems like an area Akai might have thought to further develop to help cut into that 404 market.

This guy Tubedigga on youtube has made a lot of videos on mpc LIVE tutorials, here's one that shows how to fatten up drums with distortion, i think it sounds great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZUtJ67uJx4

And also one showcasing the ADSR stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_lHL9A9T10

Just added a Korg microstation to the set-up. About to hook it up and have fun.

Nice one mr. thraz. Lots of power in a relatively small setup. Do u use the 505 & 606 together, or alternatively?

It really depends.
I bounce patterns between the two of them alot.

The 505 is what I do the drums on and where i do the bulk of the sample sound sculpting (the turn table is hooked up to the 505)

The 606 is used to snatch patterns from other hardware or software and I do most of the phrase sample chopping on it like I'm doing here https://youtu.be/0SrO1A_982k

There are times I just rock one of the sp's solo with a turn table or Spotify.

Hopefully the Korg will break my dependence on softsynths , I find I just have to run them through to many effects. I have a project I gotta get done I want the sound of it to be in your face but not too dirty.

So is the Korg a stand alone synth? I didn’t recognize it at first glance.

I’m blowing this thread up folks... got some updates. This is kindof a puzzle, but the pics r all in the order they appear in the room from left to right.

So after my initial photo of this space and all the unused gear just sitting around I re-examined things. In this arrangement the ST-224, MC-307, & TR rack... plus vinyl, cassette, and CD player, all go through the 808... which is tracked into the Yamaha aw16g via op-1 expansion. The 16 track then runs through a NAD receiver that controls the monitoring setup. Two sets of speakers... custom vintage floor speakers & a pair of cheaper rca’s. These can monitor simultaneously or separately. Makes for a great listening room. The vintage speakers sound great & the rca’s compliment them well as they r more responsive. Despite how cheap the rca’s r I’ve always found them to b great for monitoring, as when I mix on them I get results that sound decent across a wide range of speakers.

And Tosh the cat always has good feedback on which samples r worth messin with and which ones r merely background music for the smoke sesh.

@Kegeratorz
The TR Rack is sick. The one issue I will address right away is the inconvenience of navigating through some pretty deep menus with the limited interface. I guess that could also b a positive thing once u get the understanding of how deep the thing goes. This is my first and only rack synth so that aspect was new to me. Once u get the hang of navigating the features and configuring a few key aspects it is amazing. Especially for the price. It doesn’t save its master midi settings though, so u need something to dump the midi data into... I pair it with an MPC 1000 for sequencing and saving the 16 channel multi-voice settings. It’s dope in that application. Samples from the mpc and synth accompaniment from the tr rack. When I use it in the setup pictured I don’t save settings or sequence it, just record into the 808 then chop loops... or sample drums or background sounds from it. I would highly recommend picking 1 up if ur interested... especially for the price. Keep in mind that it doesn’t save ur settings or do any sequencing.

@mr. thraz
Yes dude. It does exist! :mrgreen:
