I know I met some fellow alumni here before but I'm not sure who it was.

Also, who else here has actually gotten a formal education in audio production or recording engineering?

I have a diploma in Music Production and Engineering. Did it online too at American Audio Institute. Great school and mega cheap. The founder of the school and administrator of the school was an engineer for the Beatles during their acid years. He still alive and drops a message or two if you do well. I always tell him about my new releases to peep them.

Don't go to school.
Dedicate time to YouTube tuts and LinkedIn master classes.

This is coming from a film school post audio graduate nerd.
School is a business and everything is online now. Don't believe the hype

Over and out

I was thinking of going to Trebas Institute in Toronto (Drake's producer '40' went there)
But nothing is guaranteed and to go $20K down the drain without a guaranteed job or career felt kind of intimidating... so i decided to work and pay for equipment and learn this myself.

That's pretty dope.

I don't know much about online schools but I admire that you took a step towards formalizing your musical endeavors and being serious about your craft.

It's definitely a roll of the dice man but if you're serious about pursuing music and music production it would be a step in the right direction towards meeting other like minded individuals and getting some networking/practice.

DIY is cool too though.

There's definitely A LOT of information on the internet today which will allow you to become a decent producer.

Don't do it! Network at live events. Go ask the greasy pony tail guy if you can wrap his cable for minimum wage. 4real.
Cause when you drop 20k on school, you'll end up wrapping cable for these non showering slicks anyway.

Eventually..if you wrap enough cable... They will let you mix...and then you buy them a donut and they will allow you to mic talent.
Then you start making real $

You're right about the networking. It really comes down to who you know when you're in the entertainment industry.

Paid education is such a business. Art institutes, music institutes, etc. They’ll tell u anything to get u on the hook. Admissions folks r just like car salesmen these days. School loans suck. Private educational institutions r as much an unregulated con-game as the real estate market was before the epic crash. I think the government should’ve stepped in to regulate the unfair loan practices a looong time ago. Basically signing kids up for $50-$80,000 worth of debt to get their parents out of their hair in a lot of cases.

All that said... I am interested in some official music-related schooling.
