Ive been thinking a lot about how much i really like the veterans who just use samplers instead of DAWS. I really want to push this movement. Team Canaduh and beatjitzu imo drive this pure skill side of the SP cats, and i like it a lot. I personally use just one 404 and then a korg minilogue and an arturia microbrute. What do you SAMPLER 0nly b0ys use?

By the way, my currently released music was made on a daw. I think both sides of music and production have their own place, i just am currently embracing this punky raw side of synth production.

tbh .. DAWs open up extra production mixing options

but Gear only setup allows mental capacity to expand . and a sense of urgencey to complete.

I use all kinds of stuff .. cheap keyboards . percussion instruments . guitars .

I only use Audacity to apply mastering touches tbh .

flip back and forth between various peaces of equipt'

Yeah, thats me too. I master in a daw, but do everything else on just my SP and my synthesizers.

Like 95% of the shit I make nowadays is pure sp, using sounds from whatever catches my ear, from my keyboards/guitars to records to sounds from movies and YouTube. I occasionally use my computer for mastering stuff but it no longer plays a role in my creative process. Not a day goes by I don't think about selling my mpc ren to get a 606 or a 555... Computers suck!

bro.. I was purchasing a 606 .. on eBay when it fell through .

I can only speak from experience . the 505 is a delight .. especially if you've got another SP to multichain

ide go 606 . different features that both the 404 and 303 don't have

for example ;
* screen editing samples .
* pitch spread (for playing multiple notes within an octave using sample sample/ sound.
* sequence mode will be solid aswell . 404 has a very difficult sequencer . not sure if you have a multi track sequencer . to drop elements in and out on the fly

if you're swayed to the 303,might as well go the 505 route . it's the 303 bigger brother . and as stated above feature wise.also you will probably find a 505 in better condition .. everybody copped the 303 after they hopped off Madlib's wave . no offence to anybody, but it is what it is.

final thoughts ;
the 555 has same sound engine as the 404 . either of the other models will add a different sonic to your final product. no use having the same car twice . unless that's your thing

I got an sx first and then I grabbed a 303 a few months ago and I LOVE it, I think they compliment each other perfectly, each making up for what the other one lacks. I totally agree with krisso about the sound engine difference, it's nice to combine the different sonic qualities they have cuz they're so subtly different. Those features on the 606 do sound nice tho...

Oh and I actually got my 303 cuz of ras g not madlib :lol: actually the resampling while recording from the line in is really what sold it for me, idk if you can do that with any other sp's?

ah yes .. good point Seezesea

I think the 303 is the only SP that allows resample whilst playing external source in / over the top

Picking up a 303 asap. DIdnt know you could resample with exit source on. Thats fucking crazy to me. I do a ton of synth work, so that totally sells me on it.

the 606 doesn't do the pitch bank spread like the 505.
you can do it with the efx but you can do that with any sp.

no problem, just don't want you disappointed when you get one.

when you get, keep the 505, they're a great team.

absolute . I've got the 404sx (my first hardware) . the flow is nice @ the minute . plus got a looper effects pedal when I feel the need to go jazz mode with the sequencing. cheers for the heads up on the 606
