New to the forum, I'm curious how people might be incorporating the SP into DJ sets (besides DJing a full set just using an SP). I've got Traktor but finally coming around to the fact that I'm uninspired DJing w a laptop + controller.

Is anyone DJing with straight vinyl (not Serato) and an SP? I like the idea of alternating between a turntable and sp404, triggering original intros/outros, additional sound effects, etc. Curious if anyone is doing something similar. I love the SP-KP3 combo too. How are people mixing it up?

I have done sets like that before, its a great idea. I would use my SP in a DJ set one of two ways:

1. In a vinyl set up, have two turntables on channel 1 and 2 of my DJ mixer and the SP on the AUX input. I have sound bites and a couple extra tracks to throw on just in case when i grab a new record. Also good to put songs on there that you have a digital file, but not on wax

2. (more commonly) I use the SP as an FX unit, run the Serato out from the mixer to the SP and then to mixing board/PA speakers. Make sure you practice what FX you like and how to use them. You can blow your set if you arnt quick on the knobs (tape delay)

Have fun with it!

Thanks for the reply - great ideas. I've never seen anyone live using vinyl + an SP, usually just an SP or two, or some sort of vinyl/Traktor/Serato set up.

use turntable ,mixer and 404 . some times i will need to sample from the mixer, so i dont want to flip flop master out to much, if I need to sample everything then the mixer is going into the SP. doing this live you would need a more complicated but practical aproach,

turntable(CH1)+sp404(ch2) > mixer > another_sp

so now with your other SP, You can sample everything on thy fly, or use it as a live looper, you will need to have all of your sp404 sounds ready on the one going into the mixer. because it really wont have a source in the chain. without making a feedback loop. i just came up with this formula, probably some better ones, for on the fly, how ever you make your songs, sampling them to a pad or having more control over the sections would be ideal(er) for live and on the fly, there is all sorts of crazy ways to do it, and if you do all the hard stuff behind the scenes, like flip flopping cables.

Two Sp-404sx's and a Numark m101usb mixer is my setup. I've also got an Akai mpd26 and FL Studio, so I can switch out from the sampler in channel 2 on the mixer and incorporate the pc and midi controller.
