Haha! NJ goes on a rant (which is on point for real) in response to a rant. Can't wait to hear the new shit! As for me, my shit is as derivative as hell, but I'm fucking good at it! I copped the sophomore black moon album this week at a pawn shop for a dollar, and it's like the lost tablet: hard drums, stand up bass, and some committed emcees just flowin. It was like a revelation to me, the knowledge that there's still so much of that undiscovered sweet spot boom bap out there. I cringe at the idea of a 2016 YouTube playlist sound, but am thankful for beatmakers that carry the torch of the real shit!

New in the area I have from time to time the same feeling... I feel like r4ph431 says. I listened to a lot of production with Sp404sx on the web... and I say to myself : Hey maybe I haven't got my place here with my piece of music, because they don't sound like that (lo-fi, boom bap, dope...). But this is the same thing in all kind of music, isn't it ? And in this kind of styles we've got some good things... and sometimes in this variation you find a good idea.

You can always be that change to set off that innovation. But nothing is really new under the sun. But it's probably gonna take using gear nobody is really using to come up with something different. As fun as the sp is u get only certain sound from it from most users.

And a lot of beat makers on soundcloud is young. U gotta crawl before u walk. Also making beats different tempos from 80 to 160 and high helps. But cats be stuck in comfort zones early on. I know I wouldn't go past 94 Bpms for the longest. Lol but eventually I started messing with 100 plus Bpms

I don't even think it pays to be inovative. I think my music is fairly different from other people's music but the ones who sample the same cookie-cutter jazz and Japanese shit get more followers and plays.

Is that what u making music for more followers / plays?Start your own movement with like minded ppl as you. Plenty of ppl innovative and creating a following in the process. Nothing happens overnight either.

I make music because its fun. I brought up the followers and plays because eventually I want to make music as a career, can't do that with 8 followers.

I don't think you can rate your music's success on how many follows.
If your dead and people still bumping your music 20 years later, then, you did something right.

Before there was the Internet u had to play ur music on the boom box at the function and actually connect with ppl in real life. Nobody starts out with millions of followers. Also there's more lanes in music game than putting out beat tapes and and doing shows. Licensing music to films, shows, commercials is also an option
